**Program & Job Description**
YWCA Halifax offers a pre-employment program providing women and gender diverse individuals, 19 years old or older, an opportunity to achieve the skills and experience necessary to successfully re-enter the workforce, reach their employment goals, and achieve financial stability.

This program provides an environment for participants to gain skills and knowledge through pre
- employment workshops concentrated on personal management skills (i.e.: critical thinking, contingency planning, reliability, etc.), career exploration, and employment skills recognition/development. Participants will work towards vocational independence by accessing Coordinator and peer support, engaging in career and personal development activities, such as resume writing, mock interviews, and creating and implementing a group-based “Community Action”, and by gaining experience, references and networks by participating in a volunteer opportunity.

**Role of the Pre-Employment Program Coordinator**
The Pre-Employment Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination and administration of YWCA Halifax’s NEW Step Ahead Pre-Employment Program. This program has undergone significant changes to its existing program structure, frameworks/models, and outcomes expectations in order to respond appropriately to the needs of the population it serves. Coordination and administration of this program includes, but is it not limited to; recruitment and intake of program participants, curriculum planning and facilitation, community partner engagement, supporting and overseeing a “Community Action” activity, coordinating volunteer placements, managing program budgets, completing narrative reports, and risk management of program activities.

**Qualifications and Requirements**
- We are looking for individuals with a background in social work, education, case management, life skills training, employment programs, or equivalent.
- You are someone with understanding of program coordination, planning and evaluation in an outcome-based framework, as well as an understanding of trauma-informed practice.
- You can be self-directed and work independently, but also able to be part of a team.
- You are organized, with administrative and financial management skills
- You are able to communicate effectively, both orally and written, and have experience in report writing.
- Experience with group facilitation, as well as knowledge of labour market trends, job development techniques, and employment support strategies.
- Knowledge of policies and practices, or experience working within the Employment Support and Income Assistance (ESIA) division of the Department of Community Services (DCS) is considered a strong asset.
- A current First Aid and CPR certificate and clear Child Abuse Records, Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks are all necessary.
