**Position Information**:
Reporting to and under the direction of the Manager, Compensation, Classification, and Workforce Compliance, the Specialist, Workforce Compliance provides specialized conflict of interest and employment law (non-union) services. This role works to provide specialized consulting services and evidence-based advice on complex cases to identify and mitigate risk to the organization while advancing corporate goals and initiatives. The Specialist supports the Manager, CC, and WC in meeting The Ottawa Hospital’s conflict of interest (COI) compliance and employment law responsibilities in the areas of conflict of interest, human resources/employment laws and risk management. This role also develops and maintains strong working relationships with The Ottawa Hospital’s internal stakeholders, external colleagues, and external legal counsel.

The Specialist is accountable for identifying new ways to efficiently and effectively protect the organization from legal liability, reduce financial liabilities, and educate management in efforts to proactively avoid adverse outcomes, financially and otherwise.

**Rotation/Shifts**:
Days, 8 hour shifts.

**What you will do**:

- Under the supervision of the Manager, CC& WC, oversees, maintains, reviews, develops, and evaluates the conflict-of-interest process and projects;
- Designs, develops, delivers, and evaluates the COI program to meet the needs of the organization. Develops COI management plans, makes modifications and/or advocates for changes to meet legislative and regulatory changes and best practices;
- Defines and maintains clear and supportive lines of communication with all members of the team and with other departments within the organization, community groups and professional organizations;
- Under the supervision of the Manager, CC & WC, is responsible for reviewing, negotiating and drafting agreements, offer letter language, termination letters, settlements, policies, and other related documentation;
- Researches and brings forward recommendations on legal matters, as assigned, including matters related to employment law (such as but not limited to, the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Labour Relations Act, etc.), COI concepts, and general risk management as per the Integrated Risk Management Framework;
- Works with a wide variety of stakeholders to support the development of an internal system for ensuring appropriate legal review of and signing authority for corporate agreements within Finance for which the EVP & CFO is the signing authority;
- Supports the Manager, CC & WC in reviewing, applying, and maintaining the Non-Union Terms of Reference;
- Support the Manager, CC & WC in policy development, including drafting, editing, reviewing, and ensuring compliance for policies related to people and employment terms and conditions.

**What you will bring**:

- Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB);
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, such as working in a leading law firm or employment law department (equivalent education, experience or training will be considered);
- Experience and aptitude for creation and delivery of an operation plan;
- Legal research abilities including solid working knowledge of electronic legal databases and legal reference tools (CanLII, WestlawNext, LexisNexis Quicklaw, Brown, and Beatty, etc.)
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Office 365, SharePoint, Skype for Business
- Knowledge of hospital policies, rules, and regulations
- Superior knowledge of legal principles and framework
- Expertise in employment law, including a detailed understanding of the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, conflict of interest principles and health and hospital-related legislations, regulations, and policies
