**Accounting and Medical Billing Specialist**

**Role Description**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
As the Accounting and Medical Billing Specialist, your role will include:
**Accounting**:

- Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers for the healthcare facility.
- Prepare and process invoices, payments, and financial transactions.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed.

**Medical Billing**:

- Process and submit medical claims to insurance companies and government healthcare programs (e.g., OHIP) for reimbursement.
- Verify patients' insurance coverage and eligibility prior to billing.
- Assign appropriate medical codes to procedures and diagnoses in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
- Review medical records and documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness for billing purposes.
- Monitor the status of claims, follow up on unpaid or denied claims, and resolve billing discrepancies.

**Compliance**:

- Stay up-to-date with healthcare billing regulations and compliance requirements, including privacy laws.
- Ensure all billing and accounting practices comply with provincial healthcare regulations and standards.

**Reporting**:

- Generate financial reports and billing analyses to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics.
- Prepare regular reports for management review and decision-making.

**Customer Service**:

- Communicate with patients regarding their insurance coverage, billing inquiries, and payment arrangements in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Address patient concerns or inquiries related to billing and financial matters.

**Skill and Abilities**:

- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and medical billing software.
- Strong understanding of medical coding principles and reimbursement methodologies.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping and billing documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

**Education and Experience Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in both accounting and medical billing roles, preferably within the healthcare industry.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Diploma in Accounting and/or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
- Additional certification in medical billing and/or accounting (e.g., Certified Professional Biller/Coder - CPB) is an asset.

**Work Environment**:

- This is a full-time position.
- This position typically operates in a professional office environment within a healthcare facility.
- Occasional travel may be required for training or professional development purposes.
