**Minimum Requirements**
**Recruit Constable**
- Minimum 19 years of age
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalency
- Must possess a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License or equivalency
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
- Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
- No criminal record for which a records suspension (pardon) has not been received or an absolute/conditional discharge that has not been sealed
- Pass credit, background and investigation checks
- Must be of good moral character
- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
- Knowledge and understanding of community languages, culture and traditions with a high sensitivity to Indigenous issues
**Experienced Police Constable Applicant**
All of the above, plus the following:
- 3rd Class Constable
- Ontario Police College Certificate or equivalent recognized by the Ontario Police College
**Duties & Responsibilities**
- Attend or prepare community policing events/presentations
- Maintenance of a daily journal
- Conduct criminal and non-criminal investigations
- Interrogation of suspects, interviewing witnesses and development of informants
- Enforcement of Criminal Code and other Federal Statutes
- Enforcement of Provincial Statutes (H.T.A.,L.L.A., etc.), where applicable
- Investigating motor vehicle collisions
- Effect arrests under Federal and Provincial Legislation
- Attend Criminal and Traffic Court
- Attend Post-Mortem Examinations
- Attend Coroners inquests
- Communicate with First Nation Council
**Shift Length & Travel Expectations**
- Shifts vary in length from 8 to 10 to 12 hours with regular overtime and on-call duties at all times of the day or night
- Detachments can be reached either by car or, in some cases, exclusively by airplane. There may be instances where winter driving is necessary, including travel on winter roads over frozen bodies of water.
**Fitness Testing**
In addition to the above minimum requirements, duties and shift schedule, Officersare also required to successfully complete The Ontario Police Fitness Award Test, and obtain a level 7 on the 20 Meter Shuttle Run.

Recruit-Ontario Police College: $58,321.42
Police Constable: $74,361.44-$106,232.40
