Slingshot Transportation Inc. is expanding again We have an exciting new opportunity for Business Development Manager to join our operations team at the Milton ON terminal.
**COMPENSATION: TO BE NEGOTIATED, MUST HAVE A BOOK OF BUSINESS**
Position Purpose:
1. Achieve growth and hit sales targets by successfully managing and forecasting sales.
2. Providing operational support including customer service, carrier sourcing, load booking & tracking
3. Assessing market conditions and identifying opportunities
4. Ensure proper sourcing of carriers, maintain mutually beneficial carrier/broker relationship, and meeting delivery requirements in a timely fashion.
5. Ensure compliance with company and industry policies and procedures.
6. Working with the General Manager, Canada to develop forecasts, financial objectives, and business plans.
7. Determine the best services to meet customers’ demands and maximize margins.
8. Generating revenue.
Detailed Responsibilities and expected results:
Generate and maintain sales for the company by:
- Increasing brand awareness for the company within the community
- Interacting with customers on a regular basis to ensure satisfaction and gain useful feedback.
- Design, present, and maintain strategic plans to attract new customers and expand the company's customer base.
- Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs.
- Generating leads, attracting new prospects and developing a sales pipeline.
- Identifying and selecting reputable and safe carriers for freight services.
- Booking orders with carriers.
- Tracking status of loads.
- Collaborating with shippers, carriers and dispatchers to manage scheduled collections /drop-offs.
- Keeping accurate records of relevant activities.
- Updating customers on status of shipments and assisting with other inquiries.
- Negotiate contract and pricing agreements with carriers
- Maintain strong relationships with multiple carriers.
- Maintaining margins as per company policy and ensure best practice to maximize margins.
- Collaborate with Logistics department to problem solve, develop strategies to maximize profits and ensure prompt service.
- Clearly document and communicate customer needs.
Provide exceptional Customer Service by;
- Resolve carrier service issues directly, re-negotiating rates as required.
- Source and qualify carriers/brokers., included properly setting them up in the TMS system.
- Obtain and negotiate competitive rates with carriers.
- Negotiate, dispatch, and assign carriers to customers’ shipments maintaining acceptable margins.
- Manage carrier portfolio, including obtaining required documents, developing strong relationships and operational understandings, helping match carrier preferred lanes with freight.
- Verify pick-up and delivery information to ensure completeness, achievability, and HOS compliance.
- Ensuring loads clear customs by confirming custom broker information and customs paperwork is correct complete.
- Communicate any changes, delays or service issues to the customers, shippers, or consignees.
- Providing on time updates to customers
- Booking shipments online and over the phone
- Ensure custom broker information is complete and bill rate reflects all accessorial charges.
- Provide leadership and support to the Logistics Team
- Track and Trace shipments as required.
Qualifications:
Knowledge
- Working knowledge in the transportation industry and/or freight brokering.
- Experience in growing revenue and achieving revenue targets.
- Knowledge of Industry Rules and Regulations
- Proven experience in lead generation and sales.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to work in a team environment in high pressure situations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills are essential
- Ability to listen, speak and communicate effectively, often in some state of distress.
- High degree of proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.
- Strong analytical, prioritizing, multitasking, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Strong leadership and customer service skills
- Passion for sales and logistics
