**About the Firm**

Heer Law specializes in providing intellectual property law, intellectual property litigation, patent agent and trademark agent services. We are an established intellectual property law firm located in Toronto. The firm has experienced strong annual revenue growth over the past 4 years and anticipates that the firm will again double over the next 3 years.

**The Role**

**Responsibilities**

The operations manager helps manage the overall administration and operations of the law firm and reports to the owner in regularly scheduled meetings. The operations manager assumes responsibility for personnel management and administration, IT, and facilities management. The operations manager identifies and plans for the changing needs of the organization, shares responsibility with the owner for strategic planning and practice management and contributes to cost-effective management throughout the firm. Whether directly or through a team, the operations manager will be responsible for most of the following:
**Systems**: Including systems analysis, cost/benefit analyses, computer systems, systems development, records management, information management, office automation, document construction systems, information storage, telecommunications, and legal practice systems.

**Facilities**: Including space planning and design, purchasing, inventory control, records storage, telecommunications, mail, and courier.

**Human Resources**: Including recruiting, selection, training and development, performance evaluation, payroll, and benefits administration, employee relations, motivation, counseling, disciplining, discharging, personnel data systems, job design, resource allocation and other human resource management functions for the legal, agent and support staff.

**Practice Management**:Including lawyer and law student recruiting, lawyer and law student training and development, support staff supervision and training, work product quality control, professional standards, substantive practice systems and other practice managementfunctions.

**Qualifications and Experience**

**Knowledge**: Has knowledge of legal and/or other professional service organizations, and has experience with managing human resources, technology, and facilities. Experience working at an IP law firm would be an asset.

**Skills and Abilities**:Can identify and analyze issues and problems in management in the above areas andrecommend and implement solutions. Can manage law firm functions economically andefficiently, organize work, establish priorities, and maintain good interpersonal relationsand communications with lawyers, agents and administrative support staff.

**Education**:Graduation from a recognized college or university with major course work in business administration or management or comparable work experience. A graduate degree in business would be an asset.
