**Program**: The **Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre** (PLEC) offers education and employment support for youth aged 16-24. PLEC provides the opportunity to engage in the exploration of education and career development through individualized support, readiness programs, supporting the ability to access education funding, work placements, and wage subsidies.

**Compensation**: Base annual salary of $50,000, comprehensive cost-shared group medical insurance plan, Employee and Family Assistance Program, RRSP contribution, three weeks annually of vacation to start and 4 weeks after one year (pro-rated for the term), generous sick leave, a generous paid holiday schedule, in-house trainings, and professional development opportunities.

**Hours of Work**: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with some flexibility for occasional evening work.

**Location**: 6169 Quinpool Rd., Suite 220, Halifax, Nova Scotia

**Reports to**: Manager, Phoenix Learning and Employment Centre (PLEC)

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure program delivery is congruent with Phoenix’s vision and values.
- Work in accordance with Phoenix’s policies, procedures, and framework of practice.
- Support the day-to-day operations of PLEC, including contributing to a positive and collaborative work environment. Regularly engaging in case conferencing with other PLEC team members.
- Provide individualized case management support to a caseload of youth as they work towards their employment goals.
- Assess youth readiness and needs for positive engagement with their employment goals.
- Create individualized support plans with youth that work towards identified goals in a collaborative manner.
- Work in conjunction with other Phoenix team members to provide wrap-around supports for youth and coordinate an employer strategy.
- Cultivate relationships with employers to establish youth employment opportunities.
- Identify, recruit and screen employers with the goal of securing paid work placements for youth participants.
- Actively engage and participate in external network groups/committees and develop strategic partnerships with other employment agencies and Sector Councils.
- Liaise, advocate and work collaboratively with other employment programs and Nova Scotia Work Centres.
- Actively engage in opportunities for employer recruitment and youth placement through career fairs and open house events.
- Provide guidance to employers on recruitment, retention, and training of youth, and offer help with workplace integration, culture and diversity as needed/requested.
- Maintain ongoing communication and regular check-ins with employer partners.
- Maintain PLEC’s employer list and share insights on employers and opportunities for employers with other team members.
- Develop and facilitate workshops for youth focused on life skills, job readiness and career preparation.
- Develop and update local labour market information pertinent to youth employment.
- Support the onboarding and training of new staff and volunteers.
- Complete and maintain records, assessments, daily statistics, and files using LaMPSS and Phoenix database, ensuring youth confidentiality is protected.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS**:

- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and maintain positive working relationships with youth.
- High level of understanding of youth development issues, particularly housing and mental health, as they relate to education and the labour market engagement.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and personal reflection towards an anti-oppressive approach to practice.
- Demonstrated ability to guide youth through a process of career exploration, education and employment goal setting.
- Experience supporting young people to make positive career decisions and to transition into education and/or the workforce/labour market.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of labour market trends in Halifax Regional Municipality and an ability to foster positive relationships with community partners.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:

- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Social Work, Education, or Career Development is required, with 2-3 years of direct experience working with youth.
- Registration or Candidacy for Registration, certification, or membership of a related professional body.
