**About Our Opportunity**:
An exciting opportunity exists to join the Department of Justice as a Program Specialist within Public Safety and Security Division, Security Programs Section. In this role, you’ll oversee the development, implementation and management of the Special Constable Program, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and initiatives relating to public safety.

**Primary Accountabilities**:
Reporting to the Manager, Security Programs, Public Safety and Security Division, as the Program Specialist you will be responsible for:

- Developing and implementing a comprehensive Special Constable Program to enhance community safety, which includes establishing a legislative framework and program policy for specific roles, responsibilities, and training requirements for special constables.
- Providing professional expertise in the administration, management, and delivery of the Special Constable Program. This includes analysing relevant information and drafting briefing notes, reports, and recommendations to management.
- Synthesizing information from both internal and external sources to ensure timely and relevant information is provided to management. Supports contract and/or agreement management, communications, and implementation planning for initiatives and programs.
- Drafting correspondence in response to inquires and concerns from key stakeholders and the public. Supports senior colleagues in the development of internal and external communications.
- Maintain strong relationships with partner departments, law enforcement and service providers to facilitate effective communication and collaboration on shared mandates to ensure program effectiveness. Participation in working groups and committees may be required.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
To be considered for this opportunity, you have completed a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus five (5) years of related experience in policy/program planning and development. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered

In addition, you have proficiency and demonstrated capabilities in:

- Policy formulation and analysis, business and strategic planning, project management and report writing.
- Setting priorities, meeting deadlines, managing large workloads and the ability to solve complex issues and make decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Working independently and as part of a team is essential.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

We recognise equivalent contributions of training, education and experience, providing opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds to contribute their skills and expertise. Equivalencies include, but are not limited to:

- A related master’s degree and four (4) years related experience in policy/program planning and development
- A related 2-year certificate/diploma and seven (7) years related experience in policy/program planning and development

**Working Conditions**:
Most of your time is spent in a comfortable office setting and may involve sitting for long periods of time. Travel throughout the province may be required. Your normal work week is 35 hours/week. You may be required to work overtime on occasion.
