**Reporting to**: Manager, Media and Communications

**Description**:
The goal of the Media & Communications Department is to identify, develop and implement communications strategies and programs aimed at supporting and promoting Catholic education in Hamilton-Wentworth, and strengthening relationships between the Board, its employees, parents, parishes and community groups. Reporting to the Manager, Media & Communications, the Communications Officer will support school and system communications for the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board, ensuring alignment with the Board’s Mission/Vision and Strategic Priorities, and consistency in messaging, brand and tone.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
Research and write stories on HWCDSB/school activities and events, as assigned, for a variety of mediums, including HWCDSB website and social media platforms;
Assist in providing communications support to schools in promoting special events and initiatives;
Proof and edit/rewrite school story submissions for HWCDSB and school websites;
Assist in the development and seeding of stories with local media;
Develop and write news releases and media advisories for school-based events, as required;
Assist with special events planning and promotions;
Assist in identifying key content and support campaigns for HWCDSB’s social media channels;
Assist in developing social media strategies, and track and analyze trends and engagement levels using web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics);
Design flyers, posters, brochures and other print materials, as assigned;
Assist with video production;
Provide photography services for promotional purposes;
Other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
University Degree or college diploma in Communications/Public Relations or related field;
Minimum 1-3 years’ experience in public/community relations

Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
Ability to interpret information and identify key messaging.

**Salary**: Professional Administrative Support Staff (PASS), Level 4 - $55,665 - $70,533
