**Veterans Coordinator (18 Month Term*)**

**OVERVIEW**:
The Veterans Coordinator will lead a project called _Supporting the Well-Being of First Nation Veterans in Manitoba_. The Veterans Coordinator will develop meaningful, culturally relevant programming and services in that are focused on engaging the distinct needs of First Nation Veterans.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Veterans Coordinator will facilitate and coordinate various efforts that support First Nation Veterans to access available supports and identify gaps where newly developed programs or services may prove beneficial to veterans and their families.
- Develop an inventory of existing programs, services, and supports (including financial) available to First Nation Veterans.
- Identify barriers to access and gaps in programming/services for First Nation Veterans.
- Design new and innovative programming/services to address any gaps identified.
- Advocate for First Nation Veterans’ distinct needs and for equitable, accessible programming/services as identified by veterans and experts.
- Engage directly with personnel at CFB Shilo, CFB Winnipeg, HMCS Chippewa, and 17 Wing Winnipeg by creating a workplan, hosting focus groups, and planning engagement gatherings.
- Connect Veterans to relevant and appropriate supports, programming and services as requested, including mental health and wellness supports.
- Establish partnerships with service providers.
- Build community connections and relationships with veterans by planning gatherings and events, with support from SCO Events.
- Provide ongoing support for First Nations to engage in commemoration activities on and off reserve.
- Develop and complete a project and implementation plan for a monument to First Nation Veterans.
- Supported by SCO Communications, launch a regional education and awareness campaign.
- Collect and compile quantitative data and provide ongoing reports to funder as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Completion of degree, diploma, or other formal education in Community Development, Social Work, Public Administration, Indigenous Governance, or another related field.
- Experience in project development and implementation, including facilitation.
- Experience in planning events of different scopes and sizes, including focus groups.
- Ability to develop relationships with veterans, First Nation leadership and communities, collateral support services, and Canadian Forces personnel for the purpose of supporting veterans and veterans’ programming.
- Knowledge of existing community resources and supports or the ability to gain this knowledge within a short period of time.
- Ability to maintain organized documentation and accurate data collection.
- Attentive to detail with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to draft advocacy letters and reports.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and at times under pressure.
- Team player, challenged by working in an environment of change, and a believer in excellence.
- Critical and strategic thinker.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated understanding of First Nations history, cultures, and traditions.

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**:

- Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Must provide a clear Adult Abuse Registry check.
- A valid Class 5 MB Driver’s License; must have access to a reliable vehicle for business travel.
