The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Researcher/Analyst III within the Child Welfare and Social Development (CWSD) Department. The primary responsibilities include researching, developing, advising, and providing recommendations and/or studying the feasibility of First Nation projects or issues. Provide research, technical or analytical information based on assigned projects and/or prepare proposals. Provide written documentation for briefings, updates, strategic planning, or media releases.

The position will be responsible for planning FSIN and community engagement sessions stakeholder meeting working groups and other relevant tables, within a team, under the direction of the Director of Child Welfare and Social Development. Data collection, analyzing, and providing draft briefing on high level First Nation Child Welfare and C-92 legal documents. Must be willing to travel and engage in person.

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**:

- **Research and Analysis**_
- Identify, research, and provide analysis, for consideration, on new and/or revisions to current First Nation Child & Family Service legislation and policies that relate to the promotion, enhancement and implementation of the Treaty Rights or related department initiatives.
- Identify, research, and provide analysis on resource materials and legal documents related to child welfare.
- Provide advice, information and assistance on issues and initiatives (First Nations, federal and provincial) related to child welfare including the development of resource materials.
- Research and compile archival documents.
- Provide research advice on, write, review and report on proposals and participate on team projects that require several employees for input
- Gap analysis on all child welfare draft, final and working agreements.
- Analyze and evaluate data determined by the nature of the research.
- **Communications**_
- Prepare briefing notes, updates, media releases and other communications materials related to child welfare and social development.
- Maintain effective liaison and communication with First Nations, especially the Technical Advisory Group.
- **Reporting, Communication, Advocacy**_
- Support and participate as required when establishing and maintaining ongoing relations with all levels of First Nations and Non-First Nations levels of governments and agencies.
- Review and approval of cultural components within written materials/reports developed by Health and Social Development Secretariat (HSDS).
- Advocate and support First Nations traditional leadership, governance, and laws.
- Provision of draft briefing notes to the CWSD Director, HSDS Executive Director, the Commission and Vice-Chief with portfolio.
- Maintain effective liaison and communication with First Nations.

**Event Planning and Stakeholder Engagement**
- Event planning and coordination with CWSD department for FSIN and community engagement sessions.
- Facilitation of stakeholder meetings and working groups.
- Management of relevant tables and committees when required.
- Communication with stakeholders to gather input and promote engagement initiatives.

- Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

**Qualifications**:

- **Education**_
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Law, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
- **Experience**_
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience.
- High level proficiency in written and communication skills
- Computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of First Nations customs, culture, and history.

**Reporting**:

- This position reports to the Director of Child Welfare and Social Development. _
- Salary is based on an established grid and commensurate with qualifications and experience. _
