Transit Ability Coordinator

**Job Description**:
**POSITION PURPOSE**
This position is responsible for assessing customers mobility for travel on conventional, paratransit, on-demand transit, and subways. Provides transit travel training to customers. Conducts outreach activities to promote the use of public transit and ensures compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). Creates effective route planning for customers in consideration of customers needs and abilities.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Communicates with medical professionals, as needed, to clarify and/or review applicants’ eligibility.
- Conducts in-person assessments as needed, to review applicant’s functional abilities to utilize conventional or paratransit services.
- Ensures external appeal panel has the necessary medical information to assist in the panels ability to determine eligibility, as needed.
- Liaises with appeal panel for clarifications on eligibility decisions, if required.
- Develops and delivers training for employees related to the paratransit service. Creates and maintains Mobility On-Request operator training materials.
- Creates and conducts external individual and group travel facilitation, presentation, and information sessions, for seniors, new immigrants, disabled persons, students, etc. to educate them on the use of conventional, on-demand, and paratransit services.
- Documents the results of applicable travel training in the customer’s profile.
- Identifies potential travel barriers through route-planning with consideration of the customer’s needs.
- Attends community meetings to represent and promote the travel training program and the Travel Assessment Centre.
- Prepares summary reports and submits to management for review.
- Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate.
- Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
- Manages information in accordance with legislation and corporate standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Successful completion of a College Diploma in Kinesiology, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physiotherapy Assistant, Recreation Therapy, or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum three (3) years experience in working with persons with disabilities and adult training experience.
- Valid First Aid Certification.
- Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Strong presentation and communication skills and the ability to create effective/informative presentations and training materials.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations and standards including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Integrated Transportation Standard.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
- Strong MS Office Suite and use of virtual platforms.
- Ability to travel to offsite locations.
- Ability to stand, ability to bend and work outside in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
