Vacation Student

The purpose of the Vacation Student - Exploration Role role is to have the opportunity to gain some exposure to a world class Archaean Orogenic mineral system at Evolution Mining’s Red Lake Operation in NW Ontario. You will form part of the Exploration team, whose job is to enhance the operations future through Discovery, Resource Growth and Reserve Conversion. You will contribute towards our success by assisting with mapping (surface & underground), soil sampling and core logging programmes. A summer with the Red Lake Exploration team will help set the basis for a geological career in mining.
**Roster**: 5 days on/ 2 days off/ 4 days on/ 3 days off - 9.5 hour shifts
Residential Role - 1 position - Fixed Term until end of summer

About our Operation
Our Red Lake Operation is located in an area where you will experience the best in Northern lifestyle, in the heart of a lake-studded, boreal forest region in Sunset Country. Red Lake is known for its natural beauty, abundant wildlife, and incredible Canadian fishing in the many freshwater lakes in the area. The Red Lake district is located 180 kilometers north of Dryden about 100 kilometers from the Manitoba border in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It spans 42,000 hectares and has produced over 29 million ounces of gold since 1949. Our Red Lake Operation includes underground mining and processing complexes in Balmertown and Cochenour, as well as the Bateman Project. As Evolution’s newest asset and our first in North America, we are excited by the opportunities here.
About the role
The Vacation Student - Exploration role offers an exceptional opportunity to play an active role in field programs to start learning the essentials of collecting geologic data. Field programs will include soil sampling, regional surface mapping and underground mapping.
**Key result areas in this role include**:
Assist with preparation of diamond drill core for geologic logging and sampling
Gain initial exposure to logging diamond drill core with an emphasis on lithology, structure, and alteration relating to gold mineralisation
Take part in some surface and underground drill rig inspections
Deliver a short report for a geological project/question relating to your summer work
Adhere to all relevant corporate policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned
About you
As a Vacation Student - Exploration, you will be enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of a University program focused on Geology. It is also important that you have/ can demonstrate:
Relevant experiences in core logging or geology related activities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Some exposure to mining software (QGIS or Leapfrog) would be advantageous
Familiar with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants
Strong will to learn and develop.
Self-starter demonstrating motivation and initiative
The ability to deliver results according to agreed plans
Good writing and reporting skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
