**Job Summary**:
The Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Assistant supports the Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Specialist in meeting the needs of youth participants in all aspects of employment, education, and career planning.

The Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Assistant work with youth as individuals, and sometimes within groups, to assist them in removing barriers to employment, developing their ability to be effective in the labor market, assessing their employment skills, interests and career options, supporting their employment seeking needs (i.e. resume, job seeking plans, interview skills etc.), helping to address any educational barriers, goals or needs, and assisting them in making wise career decisions for themselves.

The Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Assistant must have excellent interpersonal skills. They must have a thorough understanding of the world of work and up-to-date information about trends that affect the employment outlook. They must have the ability to successfully facilitate a client’s journey through the development and implementation of an employment action plan. They must be able to assist with educational barriers and needs and with the development of post-secondary plans for clients.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Assistant will support the Foundry Terrace Employment and Education Specialist with:
**Assessment**
- Interviewing youth participants to obtain employment history, educational background, career interests, and employment goals
- Helping to identify barriers to employment and assist clients with such matters as job readiness skills, job search strategies, writing résumés and preparing for job interviews
- Administering tests designed to determine the interests, aptitudes and abilities of clients
- Assessing needs for assistance such as rehabilitation, financial aid or further training and referring clients to the appropriate services
- Providing job search guidance, educational guidance, and career advice
- Assuring that participants understand the next steps in receiving services from other community resources identified to support their employment and education goals

**Case Management**
- Ensuring that case management is done within the Foundry Employment and Education Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model
- Job matching of postings with youth's skills and employment goals
- The development of action plans in collaboration with the youth participants and supporting them in the implementation of the plans
- Helping youth to access resources needed to meet youth employment goals (online job banks, assessments, skill-building tools) and education goals (schools, colleges, universities, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, grants, bursaries, student loans)
- Obtaining participant releases as necessary
- Managing youth’s information in an accurate, secure, and organized manner which is in accordance with Foundry Terrace, Provincial, and Federal standards
- Securing suitable youth employment opportunities, which may include: searching for employment opportunities, advocating with prospective employers, assisting employers and youth with workplace accommodations where needed, and assisting employers and youth with job maintenance
- Helping youth create and implement post-secondary education plans, including assisting with financial planning and living arrangements

**Data Management**
- Utilizing all data management systems (i.e. Toolbox etc.) in accordance with their intended use
- Ensuring all data entries are accurate and professional in form and nature
- Maintaining all aspects of client privacy and confidentiality in accordance with TDCSS Foundry, Provincial, and Federal guidelines

**Other duties**
- May be required to perform other duties related to either the role of Employment and Education Assistant or working within the TDCSS Foundry worksite

**_Additional Qualifications_**
- Sensitivity, experience and a demonstrated understanding of the issues surrounding the employment/re-employment of injured workers or persons with disabilities is important
- Understanding various income support mechanisms such as EI and BCEA is important as is in-depth knowledge of funding sources for job-seeker interventions such as training or self-employment
- A thorough understanding of the labor market - local, regional, provincial, and national will be required to be effective in this role
- A good understanding of educational systems and how to create both continuing education and post-secondary education plans
- Proficiency in computer use is essential as is attention to detail for accurate and timely data entry. Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office and able to
