**About The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation**

The HGWF is a private family foundation whose goal is to contribute to charities whose bold ideas shape a better future for everyone. Since its founding in 2019, the foundation has granted close to $45 million to organizations focused on women’s equality; the arts; humanitarian relief; medical research and support; and a healthy environment, among other worthy causes.

**The Role**

The Manager, Grants and Operations, reports to the Executive Director and also supports her work for a related UK-based family foundation, which focuses on neurodegenerative diseases of aging research and support programs.

**Key Responsibilities**

**_ Grants Management_**
- Manages a portfolio of grants:

- Researches potential grant opportunities
- Supports solicitation of proposals
- Conducts due diligence on proposals and provides written summaries
- Provides guidance and feedback to grantseekers
- Drafts grant agreements
- Supports relationships with funded organizations
- Monitors progress and evaluates outcomes of grants
- Drafts quantitative and qualitative reports on the impact of the foundation’s granting
- Supports management of donor recognition
- Supports program and strategy development
- Conducts landscape scans in current and prospective funding areas
- Keeps abreast of challenges, opportunities, and new practices in current and prospective funding areas and provides briefs to the Executive Director

**_ Operations_**
- Grants Management System (GMS): Provides back-up support when the foundation’s Grants Coordinator is unavailable
- Proactively looks for system and process improvements and supports implementation
- Drafts meeting minutes and meeting packages, including data visualization
- Assists in monitoring the foundation’s disbursements against its annual granting budget
- Manages or supports additional administrative duties as required

**_ General _**
- Participates in regular team meetings
- Attends relevant events and conferences to build the foundation’s relationships and knowledge base
- Supports special events and projects, as needed

**Qualifications**
- 7+ years professional experience within the charitable sector and/or a demonstration of long-standing volunteer commitments
- Experience and/or education related to one or more of the foundation’s interest areas
- Experience working for a family foundation or family business is an asset
- Advanced research and communication skills, including the ability to create verbal, written, and graphic messages for different audiences
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to create a variety of graphs and charts from grants and financial data
- Meticulous attention to detail (text and numbers)
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, integrity, and discretion
- Experience with grants management software is an asset; the HGWF uses Optimy
- Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple demands and priorities, with a minimum of direction, in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Ability to problem solve: proactive, action-oriented, and collaborative
- Commitment to continuous learning
- Ability to work in-person at 22 St. Clair Avenue East, Toronto, office three days per week
- Ability to travel occasionally for conferences, events, and site visits is an asset
