**Finance Assistant - 1 year contract**

**Habitat Services **is a community based non-profit organization that provides subsidies to owners and operators, monitors housing standards, and provides mental health and housing supports to tenants. Working closely with the Director of Finance, the **Finance Assistant (FA)** supports a key role in the operations of the organization and the finance department. The FA assists in the ongoing day-to-day accounting, provide back-up for processing payroll, and maintenance of financial records as well as administrative systems. This position will also assist in the preparation of reports to meet government and funder reporting obligations and requirements.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide payroll services through the preparation and processing of semi-monthly payroll
- Prepare payments by cheque or EFT
- Process expense reimbursements and reconcile staff advances
- Maintain the filing system for all financial records
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual financial reports for the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and forecasts
- Assist with the annual audit, compiling and scanning documents to auditors
- Adhere to generally accepted accounting principles and organizational financial policies
- Support procurement and purchasing functions of the organization
- Handle other financial administrative duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role in the non-profit, health or social services sector
- Knowledge and experience of Ontario payroll
- Knowledge and experience in all aspects of bookkeeping, basic accounting principles and practices
- Strong working knowledge of MS Dynamics accounting software & HRIS Quadrant Workforce Software
- Knowledge and experience with Ontario Health Reporting Standards (OHRS) and SRI & MIS reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency and experience working in a computerized environment
- Knowledge and understanding of working within an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet organizational needs
- Commitment to working cooperatively in a community-based setting as part of an Inter-disciplinary team

**The work is (in person) in an office setting located at Dundas West & Bloor West (Toronto).**

Salary**:$53,493. **The position also includes a comprehensive benefits package upon completion of probation.
