**Hours**: _Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm_

**Start Date**:_Immediately_

**Description**:
In this temporary position you will provide 4 weeks coverage for SCP’s Shelter AM Youth Care Worker followed by 4 weeks coverage for SCP’s Shelter Receptionist with the possibility of continued employment in either a part time or full time capacity at the conclusion of the term. Shelter staff are expected to comply with industry standards and best practices while adhering to all SCP mandated approaches in the completion of their duties and fulfillment of their roles.

As a Youth Care Worker in SCP's youth shelter your primary role is to provide trauma informed youth centred support for 1-15 youth ages 16-18. You will be responsible for crisis response, medication administration, executing case management plans, youth advocacy, documenting all pertinent information, and communicating pressing concerns to your team.

As Shelter Receptionist you will be the first point of contact for individuals accessing the shelter. You will provide friendly professional support, greet people coming into the shelter, and direct them to the appropriate contacts or services. The Shelter Receptionist is responsible for providing general information in person and by phone, performing clerical duties, and maintaining front desk security.

**Qualifications (Education & Experience)**:

- Secondary completion required (High school diploma or equivalent)
- Front line youth care experience preferred
- Preference will be given to applicants with training/experience in Microsoft Office, Google Suites, and operating office equipment (multi-line telephone systems, printers, fax, etc.)
- Preference will be given to applicants experienced in working with
- Ministry of Social Services, Child & Family Services, & Community Resources
- Youth with exceptionalities, gang involvement, generational Trauma/PTSD/CPTSD
- Indigenous populations, vulnerable populations
- Individuals experiencing current/previous exploitation
- Individuals managing substance use and/or mental health concerns
- Non profit organizations

**Requirements (Skills & Competencies)**:
- **Valid Driver’s License with Driver's Abstract**:

- **Criminal Record Check **with** Vulnerable Sector Clearance**
- **Cultural humility required**
- Strong communication skills & precise documentation
- Strongly developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence
- Well developed time management, organizational skills, & attention to detail
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize/multitask
- Resourceful active listener and fast/eager learner
- Preference will be given to applicants with:

- CPR/First-Aid (B)
- Conflict Resolution
- Crisis Intervention (DPVS)
- ASIST (Suicide Intervention)
- Mental Health First Aid

**Duties & Responsibilities Youth Care Worker**:

- Youth engagement (NHA, trauma informed, strength based)
- 1-on-1 support, teach life skills, meet the day to day needs of SCP youth
- Shelter duties, laundry, vehicle refuelling & cleaning, refilling bus passes, etc.
- Transport/accompany to resident appointments as required
- Communicate with Case Plan Coordinator and team around ongoing youth issues
- Medication administration and handling
- Crisis response and de-escalation
- Mediate conflict between youth

**Case Management (specific duties may be location dependent)**
- Assist with implementing youth case plans
- Update case management documents, case notes, journals, com logs
- Incident and disclosure reports as required
- Communication with external supports (MSS, Probation, Child & Youth, etc.)

**Program Development & Administration (All locations)**
- Attend regular staff meetings
- Maintain a working knowledge of Agency policies, procedures, guidelines, and emergency protocols
- Establish rapport and liaise with representatives of MSS

**Duties & Responsibilities Receptionist**:
**First point of contact**
- Welcome and assist visitors in friendly and professional manner
- Answer the intercom
- Answer the phone and redirect calls to the appropriate person
- Keep the front desk clean and tidy

**Clerical duties**
- Set the shelter comm log up daily
- Record all necessary information in the Shelter comm log
- Document adult outreach services as required

**Safety & Security**
- Completing pocket/bags checks for youth when they arrive
- Completing wand searches as instructed/required
- Review security cameras/footage as required
- Monitor youth access to kitchen

**Provide Information/support as required**
- Handle basic inquiries
- Providing outreach food (water, snacks)
- Providing outreach information
- Manage restricted youth items
