We are seeking a **Lead Hand** **who is aspiring to reach their potential in the field of construction, reporting to the Foreman. J-AAR Excavating is part of the John Aarts Group responsible for heavy civil contracting.

**How you will make an **IMPACT**
- Lead the daily activities of construction crew; providing coaching and training as required
- Monitor job progress and provides regular progress reporting to the site supervisor/general superintendent/project manager
- Notify their supervisor if they run into difficulty executing the work or if they believe there is a better option for execution
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency
- Ensure the efficient use of labour, machines and materials used by crew
- Take an active role in monitoring performance by providing feedback
- Ensure compliance with health and safety training and reporting requirements
- Clean and perform preparation of work-site
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Utilize pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials such as asphalt
- Lubricate, clean, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, and tools
- Operate, read, and maintain air monitoring and other sampling devices when working in confined spaces and/or hazardous environments
- Operating Lead Hands: dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, compact and level earth to grade specifications, using appropriate tools
- Install sewer, water, and storm drain pipes, using pipe-laying machinery and laser guidance equipment
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
- Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed
- Provide assistance to equipment operators
- Perform demolition work and salvage useful materials
- Read and interpret plans, instructions, blueprints, structural drawings, rough sketches, and specifications to determine work activities
- Other duties as assigned

**How you WOW us**
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- 2-5 years construction experience
- 1-3 years leadership experience
- Excellent communication
- Valid G Driver’s License with clean abstract
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to positively work with and lead a team
- Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong leadership and delegation skills
- Proven ability to take initiative
