Farmers' Market Assistant

The Regina Farmers’ Market Co-operative (RFM) is seeking an energetic, organized, and customer-focused Market Assistant (MA) for the summer farmers’ market season. Working closely with the RFM’s Market Supervisor (MS), the Market Assistant provides support in all areas of the RFM’s operations and helps to ensure the highest quality customer and vendor experience and a positive market culture.
The contract will begin on May 4 and run until October 12 the scheduled shifts for this position are:
Wednesdays: 6am-2pm (May 8 - October 9)
Thursdays: 2:30pm-9pm (July 4 - September 12)
Saturdays: 6am-2pm (May 4 - October 12)
The Market Assistant will be scheduled and must be willing to work at every farmers' market per the schedule above for the duration of the contract. They may also be scheduled to assist with planning and preparation in advance of farmers’ markets, as needed.
The Market Assistant’s responsibilities include:
- Attend regular markets and any special events in person
- Follow all of the RFM’s health and safety protocols
- Develop and maintain a good knowledge of relevant RFM policies, processes, and relevant legislation/regulations
- Assist with market set up, vendor placement, and market tear down
- Transport and display RFM signage
- Assist with maintenance of market site before, during and after RFM events
- Develop and maintain a good knowledge of RFM products and vendor businesses
- Provide exceptional customer service from our customer Information Booth during the market
- Sell RFM merchandise and market money from our customer Information Booth. Be comfortable with numbers, cash handling, and using a Square POS system (training provided).
- Receive informal and formal complaints and report them to the Market Supervisor
- Troubleshoot and manage problems on site as they arise and report them to the Operations Manager
- Support the operations of the farmers' market in other areas, as needed
Required skills:
- Superior customer service skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and understand a map
- Comfortable with numbers, and experience with handling cash
- Capable of working independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to arrive on time to scheduled shifts and be ready to work (most shifts will start at 6:30am)
**Requirements**:
- Access to a computer and the internet.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to stand and walk for 2-3 hours at a time.
**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 5.5 months
Pay: $18.00 per hour

- Weekends as needed

- 8 hour shift
- Evening shift
- Morning shift
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Regina, SK S4P 0S4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
