As the Manager, Organic Contaminants laboratory, you will be responsible for overseeing scientific projects, research studies, and the analysis of environmental samples for organic contaminants. You will lead a team of highly skilled scientific and technical staff and provide advice and guidance to customers and stakeholders in interpreting laboratory results. You will also participate in branch-wide strategic planning and management and ensure the safe operation of the laboratory.
- Note: This position requires the manager to be present physically in the office. As a manager of a highly technical area, it is important to be available on-site to oversee the activities of the laboratory and provide guidance to the scientific and technical staff._

**About Us**:
The Environmental Sciences and Standards Division is responsible for providing scientific, technical, and laboratory expertise to support policy and operational decision-making, as well as reporting on the state of Ontario's environment. The Laboratory Services Branch provides analytical laboratory services to support the ministry's monitoring, compliance, and emergency-response programs. This includes providing high-quality sample analysis for the ministry's environmental programs and expertise to private and other public sector environmental laboratories.

**What can I expect to do in this role?**: As a manager in a highly technical area, you will:

- Manage complex scientific projects, research studies and analysis of environmental samples for organic chemical contaminants.
- Lead scientific projects and research studies to detect new and emerging compounds.
- Manage a group of highly skilled scientific and technical staff.
- Provide advice and guidance to customers and stakeholders in interpreting laboratory results.
- Participate in branch wide strategic planning and management.
- Ensure the safe operation of the laboratory.

**Organic Environmental Laboratory Analysis Knowledge**:

- You have knowledge of scientific discoveries, specifically related to organic environmental laboratory analysis of samples, to work with laboratory scientists.
- You know theories, principles and practices of analytical tests for organic environmental contaminants using complex methodologies and sophisticated instrumentation.
- You have knowledge of organic environmental laboratory test methodologies,, method development, research and quality management related to analytical testing of organic environmental contaminants.

**Program Delivery Knowledge**:

- You know theories and practices of statistics for analysis of chemical tests' data and quality control.
- You know relevant environmental legislation, such as the Environmental Protection Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, Pesticides Act and associated regulations.
- You have computer skills and knowledge of database management in order to use specialized programs such as the Laboratory Information Management systems (LIMs) and Information Technology systems used in a laboratory environment.
