Located at the head of Lake Ontario and within the municipalities of Burlington and Hamilton, Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) is the largest botanical garden in Canada and one of the nation’s earliest nature sanctuaries. Weddings, social events, celebrations of life, milestone occasions, and private gatherings are a key business priority for RBG and RBG’s Sales Department. As the Sales Lead for Weddings & Social Events, you will play a pivotal role in developing, creating and implementing a targeted sales strategy to increase revenue in RBG’s sales department with a focus on weddings and social events. You will convert the sales strategy into event bookings and provide direction and leadership to the Sales events team responsible for executing bookings on event days.
**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Create and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to achieve revenue targets set by the Sales Manager and Director of Sales & Marketing.
- Work closely with the Sales Manager and the marketing team to develop and create effective campaigns/sales materials, targeting the wedding and social events segment.
- Actively pursue new business opportunities through lead inquiries, industry events/tradeshows, and strategic partnerships.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to understand their unique needs, vision and preferences to convert those into confirmed bookings for events at RBG.
- Work closely with a wide variety of clients to provide expert advice and guidance on event details including venue location selection/capacity limits, preferred catering options, enrichment package offerings, botanical packages and entertainment/AV options.
- Develop and finalize contracts with clients to confirm event details.
- Provides oversight and direction to Sales events team responsible for executing rental contracts once finalized and be available to respond to clients questions and requests before and during the event.
- Ensures staff are aware of any special requirements/nuances for event bookings. Prepare regular reports on sales performance in coordination with the Sales Manager.
- **Qualifications**
- Proven experience in a sales related sector to develop and create targeted strategies and tactics to achieve revenue targets and actively pursue rental opportunities and markets.
- Demonstrated experience to drive results and convert strategies/tactics into confirmed bookings.
- Experience working with a wide variety of clients, internal staff/departments and external vendors to translate their inquiries into meaningful/memorable/high quality experiences.
- Conceptual, negotiating and contract management skills to take the clients ideas and convert them to confirmed bookings.
- Attention to detail is required to prepare contracts.
- Collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills required to work with a broad variety of clients, RBG staff and external partners/vendors to deliver on events, prepare contracts and report
- Experience in group leadership and oversight to provide technical direction and oversight to the team responsible for executing the booking requirements on event days.
- Ability to provide clear direction, resolve issues that may arise.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly and effectively to inquiries that may arise while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience in office administration, including working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher). Valid Class G2 or G driver’s license required to drive between RBG sites/venue spaces.
- **Working Conditions**
- This is a 51-week contract role with the opportunity to become a full-time permanent position.
- Available to work 35 hours a week, with weekend/evening flexibility as required.
- Indoor environment:
Ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment.
- Outdoor environment:
Occasional exposure to seasonal climate when supporting outdoor offerings.
