**Position Summary**:
The Exercise Assistant actively participates during the regular exercise and resistance training classes and assists the Registered Kinesiologist in the management of the client’s exercise prescription in the Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Program. The Exercise Assistant performs ongoing assessment of assigned clients, and communicates pertinent information to the Registered Kinesiologist; leads warm-up exercises and monitors exercise intensity/duration during supervised exercise classes and demonstrates understanding of, adherence with, and commitment to, client safety responsibilities and corresponding hospital plans, policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for clients.

**Position Responsibilities**:
Lead clients in weekly exercise classes and small-group resistance training exercises (cardiac and COPD)

Instruct and educate clients on exercise safety and follow through of care plan as directed by the Registered Kinesiologist

Lead or participate in exercise-focused education sessions

Support the client assessment process

**Position Requirements**:
Minimum completion of a two-year community college program in Fitness/Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management or recognized equivalent required

A minimum of one to two years practical and related experience or training required

Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

Certified Personal Trainer and/or Fitness Instructor Specialist and Personal Trainer Specialist Certificate

Knowledge of cardiac rehabilitation with a minimum of one year clinical experience preferred

Knowledge of resistance training principles for the cardiac population

Ability to work well in a team environment

Excellent interpersonal skills and flexibility to meet client and program needs

Demonstrated commitment to the values of service, responsible stewardship, community responsiveness and respect
