**Manager, Academic Affairs**:
**Primary Purpose**: The Manager, Academic Affairs provides the administrative planning, managing, and directing of activities in the College of Dentistry for academic affairs and curriculum matters. This position manages the activities of support staff in the office of the Associate Dean Academic.

**Nature of Work**: Reporting to the Associate Dean Academic, the Manager, Academic Affairs provides recommendations on, and supports implementation of, annual and long-term plans to accomplish established goals related to strategic academic affairs support, including admissions. This position manages change requests and reporting needs for college administrative projects and critically reviews academic services objectives and potential areas of difficulty for the purpose of identifying areas for recommended changes. The Manager is responsible for academic policy revisions as approved by Council and college committees. This position provides guidance and direction to support staff and the academic support unit, manages the timetable, schedule, and class build processes and is responsible for liaising with other colleges, administrative units, and external contacts and agencies.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:

- Develops and maintains a vision for educational growth for the college.
- Manages all college-related processes and activities for academic support services.
- Responsible for the recommendation of annual and long-term plans to accomplish college academic goals and implementation of the plans
- Ensures the appropriate accrediting criteria and requirements are maintained at the college.
- Maps and manages the curricular inventory using the college’s educational system.
- Develops, implements, and oversees standard operating procedures to ensure that the policies, which are approved by the Curriculum and Progress and Promotion Committees, are effectively implemented and meets or exceeds the accreditation standard. Recommends changes to these procedures to the Associate Dean Academic to meet goals and enhance efficiency.
- Ensures that new information, guidelines and policies are communicated in a timely fashion.
- Prepares correspondence, schedules, and compiles documents and presentation materials relevant to the Curriculum and Progress and Promotion Committees.
- Assists with the development of curriculum, ensuring that the design will meet the established objectives.
- Guides course coordinators and teaching faculty in developing course level learning objectives and session level learning objectives.
- Meeting and updating established objectives of college curricula.
- Works with the academic office, college committees and relevant subcommittees, and working groups to ensure that course and program quality meet or exceed University and accredited standards.
- Advises on the day-to-day management, leadership and implementation of policies and processes to meet the college's and university's objectives.
- Provides counsel to the Associate Dean as it pertains to interpretation of university policies, procedures, and business practices.
- Manages and edits various publications such as the College's academic section of the University calendar, specific sections of the college website.
- Verifies college statistics and completes various surveys related to its program, faculty, and enrolment.
- Key college contact for the development of the timetable and academic schedule.
- Participates in admissions standards, policies, and procedures.
- Provides communication with the student body, in topics related to academic affairs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean Academic

**Experience**: A minimum of four years of administrative experience, including management/supervisory experience is required. Experience in a university setting is considered an asset.

**Skills**:

- Knowledge of the Canadian and international educational systems and professional experience in registrarial, admissions, and student services.
- Demonstrated supervisory and team building skills to develop an effective service-oriented team.
- Ability to coordinate, manage and work with a diverse group of staff.
- Ability to communicate and deal effectively with all levels of staff, students, faculty and the general public.
- A self-starter.
- Ability to manage many tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
- Expertise with support systems such as Class Build, Registration, and Admission modules in the Banner student information system, SiRIUS is preferred.
