Reporting to the Manager, Breeding Program - Lab & Growth Facilities, this posiiton is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the Double Haploid (DH) Lab. This position is also responsible for leading and managing the DH Lab Techs to ensure assigned activities operate in a safe, smooth, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

**What you will do**:

- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the Safety, Health, & Environmental (SH&E) Safety program by assisting team members in maintaining safety compliance per Nutrien Ag Solutions SH&E policies. Follow safety policies, protocols, and procedures, and ensure a safe working environment for all team members
- Manage the Douple Haploids (DH) team to ensure project plans are effectively executed including the production of high-quality embryos and plantlets that meet the planned targets and timelines
- Responsible for all aspects of people management within the DH Tech team including hiring, promoting, performance management, coaching, training, and discharging within company policy and regulatory compliance, and in partnership with HR Business Partner. This includes following the terms and conditions of any Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), where applicable
- Keep current on technological advancements in the field and train staff as required
- Carry out project support by completing microspore extractions, embryo plating, subculture/plantlet transfers, ploidy analysis, doubled haploid plantlet planting and various growth facilities activities
- Assist in the coordination of the DH team to provide support to the growth facilities program, including planting, tissue sampling, crossing, plant maintenance, and harvesting
- Coordinate activities of technical and seasonal staff assigned to the DH program
- Maintain metric dashboard for the DH team
- Define project test methods and parameters as outlined in the program and regulate test conditions & input for optimal results
- Explore new techniques/technologies to drive lab performance & efficiency
- Develop and maintain up-to-date DH Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

**What you will bring**:

- Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Agriculture, Biology, or a related field; experience may be considered in lieu of an education
- 6+ years of related experience required, preferably in plant breeding, double haploids, molecular breeding, or similar
- 1+ year in a mentor, supervisor or leadership role required
- Possesion of a minimum Class 5 driver's license required. Possession of Class 1 or Class 3 preferred
- Extensive experience working in a brassica doubled haploid lab preferred
- Working knowledge of plant breeding, double haploids, plant tissue culture, molecular breeding, marker assisted breeding, and project management preferred
- Skilled in: leadership/interpersonal skills, persuasion & motivation of others, handling stressful situations, trouble-shooting tissue culture techniques & lab automation, challenging genotypes & modifying protocols to improve tissue culture success, and computer proficiency in Microsoft
- Able to: assess risk and exercise sound judgement in decision making, coach & develop people, manage a team within the guidelines of company/HR policies and procedures
