**EDUCATION, YOUTH AND ELDERS MANAGER SUMMARY DESCRIPTION**:
Skwah First Nation is seeking an experienced educator to oversee its education, youth and elders’ programming and services. The Education, Youth and Elders Manager oversees and ensures excellent educational programming and the delivery of youth and elders’ programs and services. Overall, this position is key to building capacity for Skwah First Nations members. This includes ensuring that all members receive an excellent education that prepares them for life in the world of work. It also focuses on ensuring that Elders have opportunities, access to services and social connection to ensure a healthy and happy retirement. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

**EDUCATION, YOUTH AND ELDERS MANAGER DUTIES**:
Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, undertakes the following duties:

- Oversees the operation of Kindergarten to Grade 12, particularly overseeing the Nominal

Roll process, ancillary funding management and overseeing the Local Education Agreement of the Band with the Chilliwack School District (SD#33) and private schools;
- Oversees the operation of the Post Secondary Support Program;
- Plans and implements the Adult Education Centre recently established at the Band. This includes development and administration of the program; supervision of teaching and educational staff; organizing and delivering student supports; ensuring quality educational instruction which meets provincial curricular requirements for obtaining a B.C. Adult

Dogwood; managing partnerships with educational bodies such as the Chilliwack SchoolDistrict and other educational partners at the post-secondary level; and liaises with funders such as Indigenous Services Canada, the First Nations Education Steering Committee and others. Depending on enrollment, the Education Manager may be called upon to teach a number of courses.
- Oversees and works with the long-established Pre-school Program;
- Oversees and supports the development and administration of youth programming, both in-school and in-community;
- Oversees and supports the development and administration of services and programs for Elders;
- Develops and manages budgets for the department;
- Writes grants and proposals to ensure the fiscally responsible management of the department;

- Arranges for appropriate facilities, information technology and maintenance of the required buildings in consultation with the Housing Department;
- Hires and manages a staff of approximately 15; and
- Serves as part of the larger Management Team of the Band.

- Strong grant writing skills
- Strong budget development and financial management skills
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s license.
- Strong work ethic, highly motivated
- Working knowledge of computer software packages including Microsoft Office
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- A team player
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Master of Arts (M.A.) in Education or a Master of Education (M. Ed.) from a recognized university;
- A valid BC Certificate of Qualification in Teaching;
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in First Nations education;
- Significant experience in trades education and adult education;
- Holds a valid BC Drivers license with a clean driving record;
- Possesses a clean Criminal Record check

**SALARY RANGE**:
Commensurate on qualifications and experience.
