**Basic Function**

Ensure the plant supply of steam, hot and cold water, softened and purified water, fire protection sprinkler water, vacuum and compressed air, HVAC, through the Operation and maintenance of compressors, boilers, fire protection systems, water heaters, vacuum pumps, softeners, HVAC systems and purified water equipment. To ensure the physical condition of the Brockville and Prescott facilities, both internally and externally, are maintained to be compliant with cGMPs, OSHA regulations, building and fire code by performing building maintenance involving painting, carpentry, repairs, renovations and new construction.

Provide effective and timely mechanical resources for repairs and maintenance of all manufacturing, packaging, and facility equipment.

To work as resource with Production, MSO’s, Machinists, Millwrights, Electricians and

Operators.

**Responsibilities**

**A. Operation and maintenance of facility utilities - 33%**

Fulfill the requirements of Ontario Operating Engineers Act and Regulations for the safe use and maintenance of compressed air systems in the plant.

Perform analysis of steam boiler feed water, boiler water, water softeners make up water, cooling tower water, and hot/cold closed water systems. Make necessary mechanical and/or chemical adjustments to maintain operating parameters. Record all results in logbook and report problems.

Track the consumption of plant utilities including electricity, steam, water and natural gas. Identify and control areas of waste and lack of efficiency. Monthly ratification to billing and issue reports.

Perform routine tests on safety controls for plant steam supply, such as relief valves and boiler control mechanisms. Record all results in logbook and report problems.

Change lubricating oil and filters in compressors and pumps at scheduled intervals. Record all results in logbook and report problems.

Inspect or replace air filters on compressors and compressed air usage points, and on refrigerant dryers. Record all results in log book and report problems.

Perform minor maintenance on steam boilers and steam generators including blow-down valves, feed water supply pumps/valves and sight glass replacement.

Maintain adequate supply of water treating and testing chemicals for water treatment program.

Assist insurance and pressure vessel inspectors during regular inspections.

Adjust temperature and humidification levels to maintain manufacturing conditions and comfort level requirements throughout the plant including minor maintenance requirements.

**Fire protection system maintenance**
- Inspect and maintain all building fire protection equipment, including sprinkler system and pumps, fire extinguishers as per NFPA standards. Record all results in logbook and report problems.
- Assist project managers in the shutting down and restoring of sprinkler systems as required. Follow established procedure for necessary notifications.
- Inspect and maintain batteries on diesel engine fire pump.

**Environmental**
- Monitor operation of effluent neutralization system on a daily basis. Ensure supply of chemicals for its operation.
- Sample wastewater streams for analysis as required.

B. Maintain and operate purified water system - 33%
- Operate on a daily basis the reverse osmosis purified water system monitoring conductivity and PH to assure an uninterrupted supply of purified water to production.
- Perform analysis of purified water and equipment. Make necessary mechanical and/or chemical adjustments to maintain operating parameters. Record all results in logbook and report problems.
- Perform maintenance and sanitation functions on the purified water system. Record all results in logbook and report problems

**C. Facility Responsibilities - 33%**
- Perform Plant air flow checks as per SOP
- Learn and follow all applicable health, safety and environmental regulations including the use of personal protective equipment as required.
- Learn and follow all applicable sections of the Ontario Building Code when performing work throughout the plant.
- Perform painting and maintenance to facility and outbuildings.
- Perform carpentry work, repairing doors, walls, desks including the installation of signs and posters
- Perform inspections on emergency and general lighting including lamp and battery replacement. Record all results in logbook and report problems.
- Move furniture, partitions, and equipment using hand tools as necessary.
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, exit doors and fire protection equipment.
- Perform minor carpentry work, repairing doors, walls, desks, etc. Install signs, posters, pictures, etc.

**Requirements/Qualifications**
- Minimum Grade 12 High School Diploma
- Certification as a Stationary Engineer, 4th Class - Preferred
- Certified as Licensed Carpenter or Facility Related Maintenance Program - Preferred
- Confined space entry, contractor safety
- WHMIS Classes B, D, and E, respirator fit testing.
