About the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU): The DSU represents the collective voice of over 18,000 students in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The DSU advocates for student rights, builds community on campus through events, supports over 300 societies, and provides focused services to foster a supportive and positive student experience.

In carrying out its communications, the DSU will ensure a consistent, clear and professional presentation of information.

**Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree or equivalent with 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working with a membership-based organization and implementing membership outreach strategies an asset.
- Experience in developing and implementing communications and service promotion plans.
- Understanding of various social media tools and communications best practices.
- Experience with monitoring, content management, and web analytics tools.
- Professional writing, editing and communication skills.
- Skilled in presenting and presentation design.
- Experience working in a collaborative, team-led environment.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands and manage a variety of tasks effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, management and organizational skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to fostering a respectful exchange of perspectives and ability to foster an inclusive work environment.
- Knowledge of the post-secondary education system in Nova Scotia and Canada an asset.
- Experience working with website management platforms/apps (such as Wordpress, Squarespace, and Wix) and Adobe Suite an asset.

Duties Lead the DSU’s social media strategy, implementation, analytics, and engagement:

- Monitor and manage all DSU social media channels.
- Develop engaging social media content.
- Utilize current and new communication platforms to connect with our members and streamline communications processes.
- Collaborate with various departments to develop ongoing communications plans and information campaigns to promote their services to our membership.
- Develop clear channels to facilitate any promotion, sponsorship, media, or communications requests.
- Ensure Communication and Social Media policies are followed in DSU communications in collaboration with the Vice-President Internal and the Policy and Governance Coordinator.
- Ensure that promotional materials adhere to the DSU brand guide in collaboration with the Graphic Designer

Coordinate External Communications of the DSU
- Develop key messaging regarding the DSU and its services.
- Coordinates media requests and writes press releases highlighting DSU news and activities.
- Assist and train executives with public speaking engagements, presentations and preparation of articles for publication.
- Using the DSU Consultation Policy as a framework, lead public engagement strategies, including the DSU Annual Survey, to ensure student consultation and feedback is included in communications and lobbying efforts.
- Leads the implementation and creation of a final summary of the DSU Annual Survey in collaboration with staff, executive, and council.
- Monitor government and news sources for potential changes to ensure that the DSU can respond effectively.

Evaluate the effectiveness of Official DSU Communications platforms:

- Utilizing student feedback, issues policy, and Annual Survey results to discover ways to create more effective, accessible, and inclusive communications across all platforms.
- Trial and implement new communications platforms to enhance our interaction with our members.
- Manage and maintain up-to-date information on the DSU website. Regularly monitor the activities of the DSU and feedback to ensure the website is accurate and functional.

Oversee the Advertising and Sponsorship Coordinator and Street Squad Program Coordinator
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of recruitment and promotion strategies for DSU volunteer opportunities.
- Provide direct support and oversight on sponsorship agreements and maintain up-to-date forms and communication channels for the Advertising and Sponsorship Officer.
- Support the recruitment of Street Squad team members and assist the Ambassador Program Lead in managing performance as necessary.
- Assist with the growth of the Ambassador program and the development of projects as needed.

Position Details
- The salary for this position is $40,000.
- This position entails 35 hours per week during the summer term and 40 hours per week throughout the fall and winter term.
