The Business and Financial Auditor, reporting to the Manager, Financial Services, BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), is responsible for performing on-site financial operational and control reviews plus special assignments, throughout BCEHS and PHSA. The results of these reviews are reported to BCEHS and PHSA Management and Executives to mitigate any risks and to ensure higher quality patient care. The Auditor makes recommendations for improvements to program efficiency, effectiveness, economy, probity, legality and prudence.

**What you’ll do**
- Independently prepares detailed audit plans, with input from BCEHS program areas, by identifying the areas of greatest risk or significance in operations. This collaboration enables the Auditor to then define the scope of the assignments and develop a comprehensive audit framework for the efficient and effective management of those assignments. Develops an appropriate approach for examining those areas selected for review and ensures internal audit standards and practices are met.
- Conducts station audits, in a highly professional manner, to provide BCEHS and PHSA with assurance that the required high level of internal controls and financial management are being met. Liaises with BCEHS Supervisors and Managers as part of station and other program audits to advise on improvements and/or make recommendations relating to compliance with policy, procedures and internal controls.
- Conducts other analyses and/or other special investigations, either individually or as part of a team, in a highly professional manner, consistent with sound internal audit policies and procedures.
- Obtains and documents sufficient appropriate evidence to support findings, conclusions and recommendations resulting from the assignment. Exercises sound judgement to ensure professional standards are satisfied.
- Provide coaching and training to Unit Chiefs on Accounts Payable, Procurement Policies, BCEHS Payroll and Operational policies and procedures and Records Management procedures.
- Prioritizes multiple tasks and assignments in order to meet deadlines and makes operational decisions on assignments. Provides lead direction to other staff and contractors to ensure both the success and professional standards of an assignment are met. Determines when to refer complex or sensitive matters to Risk Management and or PHSA Internal Audit.
- Identifies and reports in a clear, logical and concise way, all matters of significance and concerns identified during an assignment. Develops practical, appropriate solutions and recommendations to address those areas of significance.
- Ensures that recommendations made to BCEHS and PHSA Executives consider and identify budget and other resource allocations.
- Supports Leaders and Managers by communicating and working with external stakeholders to make improvements in the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of the programs for which they are responsible.
- Evaluates existing controls and identifies the need for additional controls to mitigate financial risk and loss. Provides reports to BCEHS/PHSA Management and Executives to assist them on decisions for improving controls throughout the organization.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with management and staff.
- Manages sensitive issues such as allegations of fraud as directed by BCEHS executive and/or PHSA internal audit.
- Remains current with changes in the audit profession, including new approaches to evaluate and report on economy, efficiency and effectiveness, as well as information technology developments.
