Reporting to the Manager, Food Services - Enterprise, the Café Assistant / Youth Mentor is responsible for production in the front of house operations of YOU’s food services as well as direct customer interaction. In collaboration with the back of house this position will ensure that youth receive exemplary training while daily production requirements are met. The Café Assistant / Youth Mentor provides supervision of youth and volunteers of food services, participating in the training and development of staff/youth trainees. The Café Assistant / Youth Mentor is responsible for ensuring the completion and standards of food production at the site they work at. The Café Assistant/ Youth mentor is responsible for direct interaction with guests of food service sites, providing exemplary service, while training youth on how to provide service. The Café Assistant / Youth Mentor keeps the food service areas in compliance with all health and safety regulations by ensuring adherence to sanitary and safe food handling guidelines, assisting in the adherence to Food Safety protocols. Training of youth is paramount, and the Café Assistant / Youth Mentor assists in the mentoring of skills to Youth Trainees including youth skills development programming with specific emphasis on youth employment training and job attainment in a dynamic team environment.

This position will work closely with the manager to ensure all staff are working in line with YOU’s Mission, Vision and Values. As part of Enterprise Services, this role works closely with other staff including: Cooks, Employment and Housing staff, Team leaders and other individuals to best coordinate a wrap-around approach to services to achieve successful outcomes for youth.

**Responsibilities**:

- Engage and support youth participants to develop Hospitality, employment, and life skills
- Represent the agency during customer interactions providing exemplary service
- Supervise, produce and execute operations for food services
- Monitor, update inventory levels and create packing slips for internal and external transfers
- Support with the collection of program data to track use and program outcomes
- Maintaining a safe and clean work environment; ensuring all legislated standards are upheld
- Demonstrated compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements ensuring safe food handling practices

**Qualifications**:

- 1 years related work experience
- Recommended Education: Customer Service certificate,
- Assets:

- Safe Food Handling Certification
- First Aid
- Smart Serve
- Demonstrated ability to engage, coach, mentor and support youth participants and staff
- Knowledge of standards for cleanliness and hygiene in the various kitchen areas including refrigerators and storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
- Experience with providing table side service or working in a quick service restaurant, experience using a Point-Of-Sale
- Demonstrated professional work habits, encourage staff to act with integrity and recognize this trait in others and reward them appropriately.
- Experience with training youth to complete work and side duties to staff in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Strong communication skills including communicating additions or changes to the assignments as they arise throughout the shift.
- Ability to adhere to all Youth Opportunities Unlimited Guidelines, Policies, Rules and Regulations.
