**Summer Youth Assistant**

**Location**: Based out of Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office in Edmonton, AB. Opportunity for remote work in Northern Alberta and Southern Alberta.

**Position Status**: Two (2) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Students (May-August)

**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist in Métis specific program planning, development, and implementation, including beading classes, moccasin workshops, Michif lessons, youth group nights, and more.
- Work closely with a dedicated team to ensure the success of programs, from planning and execution to post-evaluation.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define event and program objectives, scope, and timelines.
- Source and manage program venues and facilitators.
- Coordinate with in-house design and communications to promote programs and drive attendance.
- Supervise youth attendees and participants.
- Support and attend provincial events.
- Other duties as required or assigned.

**Skills & Competencies**

We are looking for motivated, confident, and driven individuals who are passionate about collaborating and working alongside Métis youth. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment. Other skills/competencies include:

- A passion for program development and implementation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
- Sound problem solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
- Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.
- Political and cultural sensitivity.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Native Studies, Human or Social Services, Education, or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- Experience in event and/or program development, implementation, and evaluation is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.

**Other Requirements**
- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Clear Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Intervention Check.
