**FORESTRY OFFICER**:
The Design and Construction Branch is looking for a Forestry Officer for a temporary position until March 31, 2029, with the possibility of extension and/or indeterminate status.

The position is classified as an RÉ-05 ($68,641 to $91,072 per annum). 2021 rates - salary under review.

**JOB OVERVIEW**
Reporting to the Forester Engineer, you will participate in the development of strategies to preserve, protect, and sustainably manage forested areas in the National Capital Region. You will be responsible for conducting surveys and assessments to evaluate the health and composition of forests, identifying potential risks or issues, such as disease outbreaks or invasive species. You will provide professional and technical advice and work with internal and external partners to implement the NCC Urban Forest Strategy and other capital projects and programs.

**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**:
**EDUCATION**
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in forestry, forestry engineering or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

**EXPERIENCE**
Three to five years of experience providing professional services in forestry.- Experience supervising and monitoring contractors for forestry work, ensuring public safety.

**KNOWLEDGE**
- Of best practices and regulations relevant to zoning, forest management and conservation.

**ABILITIES**
- To conduct field inspections, collect and analyze technical data and produce reports.
- To review construction plans, specifications, and other documents for compliance with best practices in urban forestry.
- To solve problems, negotiate and resolve disputes with internal and external parties.
- To use tools such as Forestry Inventory systems, GIS, GPS, and IAMIS maps.
- To communicate effectively orally and in writing and deliver presentations.

**ASSETS**
- Licence or registration with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association or l’Ordre des ingénieurs forestiers du Québec.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Work activities are primarily outdoors and involves exposure to various weather conditions, wildlife, dirt, dust, and hazards.
- Involves standing, walking, and navigating various work terrains.
- Involves heavy lifting, and operation of a variety of forest tools and equipment.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Possess or eligible to obtain Site access security clearance.
- Linguistic profile: Bilingual BBB.
- Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
- The National Capital Commission offers a hybrid and flexible work environment, all employees are currently asked to work on-site at least two (2) days per week.
