**Basic Function**:Reporting to the Manager of Health & Safety Services, this position is responsible for providing first aid service to staff and guests, maintaining accurate medical records, and providing support, information and data required by Management for the promotion of Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing. Provides both occupational and non-occupational health services to support accommodation and disability claims management process. Maintains efficient and safe operations of the Zoo’s Health and Wellness Centre including facilitating staff, volunteers and guests who may use the H&W Centre for treatment and services, Provides direct supervision and scheduling of non-permanent Health & Wellness Centre staff. This position will also assist and provide support in implementing the approved Strategic Plan.

**Responsibilities**:
Provide emergency first aid care, as required, to guests, staff and volunteers.

Under the direction of the Zoo’s medical advisor provides occupational health services including but not limited to:
Ø Administers medical monitoring programs including the Zoo’s Anti-Rabies and TB Screening Programs, performs venipuncture skills to verify immunization status of staff and administers various immunizations to staff as required or requested.

Ø Dispenses non-prescription medications for general ailments

Ø Provided advice and information regarding injury and/or illness

For both occupational and non-occupational injury or illness, identifies suitable work and follows up, case manages and supports principles of safe and early return to the workplace programs for both occupational and non-occupational accommodations and disability case management.

Works with employees, management, human resources and as applicable, union representatives in developing and implementation and evaluation of accommodation plans for work/non-work-related injury/illness.

Provide regular updates and informs on status of claims. Monitors data and evaluates for trends on related to workplace illness and/or injury and takes appropriate action.

For occupational claims reports to and liaises with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)

Follows best practice guidelines and standards for the administration of occupational health and safety programs and initiatives

Provides management, staff and volunteers with general health information and disease or injury prevention information as requested. Develops and supports initiatives and programs that support proactive health promotion and injury prevention

Actively participates on various committees, including Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee, Public Safety Committee and others as required.

Provides or administers training for staff relating to medical or health matters, jury prevention and care for example back care/muscular skeletal injury, venomous bite procedures, infections contagious disease prevention and also supports programs, training and initiatives for physical, chemical and biological hazardous disease prevention and risk reduction measures

Gathers and maintains statistics related to the health and wellness Centre and supplies same to Manager when requested.

Orders and maintains all necessary first aid supplies materials and equipment to provide first aid response and treatment

Ensures Management is aware of potential health hazards in the workplace.

Prepares monthly reports on incidents of illness/injury and other data regarding the operation of the Health and Wellness Centre and forwards same to the Manager of Health & Safety Services. Maintains an ongoing record of all work-related injuries and advises the Manager, Health & Safety of developing trends or safety hazards identified from medical documentation.

Provides advice/counsel to individual employees about any health concerns/matters on a personal or confidential nature.

Conducts Health & Safety related inspections and assessments as requested by the Manager.

Supervises lost children, maintains records regarding same.

Ensures that the staff work in a safe manner in compliance with safety legislation and Zoo policies and procedures. Interviews, trains, supervises and directs, evaluates, schedules and disciplines assigned staff.

Assists guests on-site as required and ensures excellent customer service is provided by Zoo staff.
