Financial Controller

Prairie North Group of Companies, a leading construction group based in Acheson, Alberta, Canada, is seeking a Controller to join our team. The Controller will play a critical role in the financial management of our company, ensuring that our financial practices are in compliance with Canadian accounting standards, regulatory requirements and best practices in the industry. This is a full-time position, reporting to the business owners and other stakeholders.
**Responsibilities**:
- Manage the financial accounting and reporting functions company, including overseeing financial reporting, analysis, budgeting and forecasting, in accordance with Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises (ASPE).
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Develop, implement and maintain sound financial policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with and provide guidance and support to project managers in budgeting, forecasting, and project cost tracking, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for construction projects.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions.
- Manage cash flow, including the preparation and monitoring of cash flow forecasts, to ensure that the company has sufficient liquidity to meet its obligations.
- Coordinate and oversee the annual fiscal year end processes with external accountants.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including financial institutions, including sourcing and evaluating new lending agreements and existing compliance (covenant and borrowing base calculations).
Qualifications:
- A CPA designation is required, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a financial management role, preferably in the construction industry.
- Strong technical accounting skills, including knowledge of Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), Canadian tax regulations, and construction accounting policies/practices.
- Experience with accounting software and proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Eclipse Contract Manager.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and provide sound recommendations.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team and communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
