**Overview**:
**Responsibilities**:
The Physician Assistant (PA) works with a team of health professionals in an interprofessional collaborative primary care setting. Under the direction and supervision of registered Physicians, the PA provides medical care to patients based on mutually agreed upon guidelines. The supervising physician is responsible for the medical care provided to the patient by the PA and can only delegate medical acts that are within their own scope of clinical practice as outlined in the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants. Duties include:

- Perform complete clinical assessments of patients and formulate treatment plans
- Order and complete preliminary interpretation of diagnostic tests
- Assist the physician with management of complex patients
- Perform certain acts under medical directives, delegated by the physician
- Counsel patients on health promotion and preventative health care
- Communicate and also when appropriate, refer patients to other members of the interprofessional healthcare team, for services outside of the Physician Assistant’s scope of practice
- Make clear, accurate and appropriate records of the patient care plan
- Maintain the knowledge and be proficient in current evidence-based methods and practices of primary care guidelines
- Willingness to fill out appropriate documentations and forms required by various third parties
- Perform other duties within the competencies of a Physician Assistant
- Participate and contribute to interprofessional team meetings
- Must be proficient in using computer and Electronic Medical Records
- Willingness to teach and train other members of the team including medical students, PA students and medical residents as required.

**Position Requirements**:

- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and decision-making ability
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a busy, multi-disciplinary situation
- Knowledge of infection control principles and practices
- Physically able to perform duties of lifting, bending, sitting and prolonged standing and walking
- Demonstrated proficiency in applicable computer programs
- Experience with Telus PS Suite EMR is an asset
- Problem solving (able to make independent service decisions)
- Collaboration and teamwork. You enjoy working both independently and as a member of a dynamic team on new and existing services and special projects
- Knowledge of primary care and a demonstrated understanding of its intersection with the healthcare system
- Participates in data collection activities as required
- Assumes other duties as appropriate.

Other related duties may be assigned in the interest of the efficient operations of Peterborough’s Family Health Team and the effective management of our patient populations.

**Qualifications**:

- Certified or eligible to be certified through the Physician Assistant’s Certification Council (PACC) or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Membership with the Canadian Association of the Physician Assistants (CAPA)
- Previous experience in a Family Physician’s Office (preferred)
