**Manual Machinist**

**The Opportunity**

The **Manual Machinist** is responsible for creating quality parts produced on lathes and milling machines according to company plans, blueprints, and other diagrams. Responsibilities include setting up machines, loading parts, operating controls, setting offsets, deburring, and inspection of quality parts for conformance to requirements.

The Machinist will detect equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machines, within capabilities, controls as required to ensure quality of production. This position will be required to operate an overhead crane, training will be provided.

**Job Duties and Responsibilities**
- Loading parts, operating controls, setting offsets, deburring, and inspection of quality parts for conformance.
- Interprets drawings, specifications, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures and marks dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as a guide for subsequent machining
- Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls to ensure quality of production.
- Reports all machine malfunctions to immediate supervisor
- Operates lifting devices for movement of parts
- Communicates with supervisor to resolve machining or quality issues.
- Keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly. Perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment
- Set up, operate, and maintain lathes and mills to perform precision machining operations such as turning, milling, boring, drilling, and other operations.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, and other measuring devices
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- High School Diploma, GED equivalent
- Post-secondary diploma or certification in a related field preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, and or engineered drawings
- Minimum of 1 years’ experience operating manual machines such as lathes and mills in a metal manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an understanding of geometric dimensions
- Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixture, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines
- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
- Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job
- Must possess basic math skills to include but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication
- Knowledge of load bearing capabilities of the equipment
- Accurate and highly analytical
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- Ability to work under pressure & meet strict deadlines
