The mission of the Waste Education and Outreach (WEO) team is to inform, engage, and empower Edmontonians to fully participate in the City’s waste management system. The Waste Outreach Coordinator will implement outreach programs in support of Waste Services’ strategies and programs.

Under the leadership of the Program Lead Waste Outreach, you will be responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of the Waste Branch’s outreach projects and programs. While the Program Lead is responsible for managing the overall strategy of programs, this position oversees and coordinates the day to day delivery of outreach programs, as well as providing critical on-the-ground data and information related to program evaluation. You’ll also lead and supervise a group of passionate Waste Outreach Educators, directing the work of up to 10 temporary/casual staff.

The Waste Education and Outreach team relies on data to program evaluate our programs’ effectiveness and for continuous improvement. Your success will also be measured by the positive relationships and culture you build with the Outreach team, Edmontonians, the WEO team, and your Waste Services colleagues.

**What will you be doing?**
- As directed by the program lead, plan, and deliver outreach programs to meet the outcomes of Waste Branch’s strategic projects
- Develops program resources, such as participant handouts and procedural manuals for leaders
- Collaborates with organizations, agencies, and individuals on a regular basis to support outreach initiatives
- Supervising a team of Recreation Technician 2, Outreach Educators, including recruiting, training, schedule management and proactive team culture development
- Coordinate publicity/marketing materials, facility bookings, supplies, and registration as required for programs
- Support the design of program evaluation approaches and conduct regular program evaluation using data collected from ArcGIS, other data collection tools, photographs, and quantitative/qualitative data
- Models excellent customer care when engaging residents in conversation on doorstep visits and/or at outreach events
- Responds to the escalation of challenging customer interactions experienced by Waste Outreach Educators
- Provides technical information and training for waste educators and the larger WEO team on challenging interactions with the public

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in Education, Adult Education, Arts, Science, Business (Marketing), or related program
- Minimum of two (2) years related experience in curriculum development, program evaluation or related area of specialization

**Skills Required for Success**:

- Knowledge of the effective delivery of educational programs, including effective waste education approaches and waste behaviour change tactics in multi-unit residential settings
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as solve problems and know when to escalate
- Ability to provide strong leadership to groups of staff, including communicating priorities, mentoring, guiding, and coaching
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships that reflect a respectful and inclusive style
- Physical ability to safely perform the tasks of the role, which may include bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, and door to door canvassing outside for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions
- Strong skills in program planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in the development of public education materials
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to balance competing and changing priorities
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to plan and coordinate work assignments
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides, Forms, Drive) and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology

**Conditions of Employment**:

- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This may require business auto insurance

**_ Up to 1 temporary full time position up to 11 months_**

**Hours of Work**: 33.75 hours per week, Monday to Friday

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
