About this Opportunity

Reporting to the VP of Philanthropy, Brand and Communication, the Communications manager is responsible for managing and executing CFTC’s communications strategy to serve organizational priorities, including private and institutional fundraising communications, brand-building and sector, government, public and strategic relationship communications, and programs communications.

In addition, the Communications Manager directly contributes and manages three main strategies to achieve these goals:

- Editorial/content strategy
- Digital communications strategy (including website development and content; e-marketing strategy/content)
- Public (including sector, media, government, strategic relations) engagement strategy

You are a natural collaborator and communicator with a strong understanding of social media platforms, digital communication channels, and how our brand can authentically leverage them to amplify our messaging. You will work with us to continue to evaluate our communications strategies and revitalize our practices to be in closer alignment with our goals for decolonization and reconciliation. You take ownership of your work and have high commitment and integrity. **Responsibilities**:
**Editorial Management, Content Collection and Training**
- Monitor and stay up-to-date on all CFTC partner and program information via all sources and work with internal stakeholders to identify, research and manage content needs and content development/promotion.
- Lead, engage, develop, and manage a small team of Communications staff. Provide timely feedback, mentorship, coaching and training.
- Refine and execute content collection processes.

**Project Management/Planning and Reporting**
- Survey and collaborate across all internal key stakeholders to identify and understand needs, plan editorial coverage to meet brand raising, fundraising, engagement and strategic relations objectives, create and execute story collection and curation, and manage workback schedules for individual communications vehicles/activities.
- Participate on cross-functional teams to create/manage communications plans within organization-level projects.
- Recommend and implement improvements and efficiencies to communications strategies, plans, activities.
- Contribute to development of Communications strategic priorities as part of CFTC’s and annual operating plans.

**People and Relationship Management**
- Provide direction for and oversee the development and execution of the digital, social media, e-marketing plan and editorial calendar.
- Work with Development, particularly monthly and annual giving teams, to coordinate communications activities (on and offline) with fundraising strategies.
- Work with Programs staff and with partners, as a conduit to ensure program and program participant stories, impact and results are communicated to CFTC’s target audiences in the service of our communications and organizational objectives.

**Writing/Editing/Publishing/Promotion of Content and Brand Guidelines Compliance**
- Write, edit, proof and coordinate publication and promotion of all editorial, website / blog content, online and printed newsletters (e.g., semi-annual _thrive_), and other content based on interviews, field and HO research, reports and other sources for specific audiences/purposes per editorial calendar, for both on
- and offline channels.
- Leverage / repurpose content to achieve a variety of communications and fundraising objectives
- Work with external vendors to ensure professional design, promotion/advertising, copywriting for all published CFTC content and ensure all communications materials meet the highest editorial standards and CFTC’s brand guidelines.

Qualifications & Competencies
- Undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations.
- Exceptional writing / communications skills developed through practical experience (4 - 6 years) in a marcomm, fundraising or public engagement communications role, with 1 - 3 years supervisory and/or project management experience.
- Capable of creating compelling, relevant content suited to target audiences and strategic goals both on and offline.
- Meticulous eye for spelling, grammar and usage following CP Style Guide and a diligent fact-checker.
- Experience/expertise and knowledge of best practices in communications, non-profit marketing and digital marketing.
