The Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) is the recognized voice of Ontario’s planning profession with over 4,600 members who work in government, private practice, universities, and not-for-profit agencies in the fields of urban and rural development, community design, environmental planning, transportation, health, social services, heritage conservation, housing, and economic development. Our student members attend undergraduate and graduate planning programs at six accredited Ontario universities.

Members must meet quality practice requirements and are accountable to OPPI and the public to practice ethically and to abide by a Professional Code of Practice. Only full OPPI members are authorized by the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Act, 1994, to use the title Registered Professional Planner (or RPP).

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**

The **Manager, Strategy & Communications **owns and implements OPPI’s Communications and Marketing Strategies, driving content development strategies across a variety of media and ensuring that the internal and external communications coming from OPPI are always attractive, effective, and aligned with company brand goals. The individual in this role is creative and highly strategic, and able to make an impact as an independent contributor while still breeding unity and cohesion through innovative communication tactics.

As the Manager of Strategy & Communications, your duties will include but not limited to:

- Manage the implementation of communications and marketing strategies
- Manage the production and promotion of OPPI’s Publications
- Develop and deliver core messages promoting planning, Registered Professional Planner value, and OPPI membership
- Oversee content development for the website, social media, video tools, e-news, Y Magazine, presentations, white papers, submissions, etc.
- Own and enforce consistent brand standards (OPPI’s brand style guide)
- Set a consistent 'voice' for the organization across various media channels
- Manage an overall Communications Calendar, optimizing member and volunteer communications
- Manage OPPI’s Spokespersons Program for promoting positions within and outside the organization
- Own content calendar and strategy for _OPPI's members-only community forum_
- Manage programs profiling planners and the role of planning (awards and member profiles)
- Employ diverse marketing tactics to promote OPPI publications, programs, and the value of the Registered Professional Planner and professional planning
- Lead and motivate individuals collaborating with the communications and marketing department
- Conduct team meetings as appropriate to discuss projects, set priorities, and address challenges
- Maximize impact and value while adhering to communications and marketing budget
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate communication and marketing plans
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for communication and marketing efforts
- Regularly evaluate and report on the effectiveness of campaigns using analytics
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans
- Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices, regularly integrating cutting edge communication strategies
- Ensure all communication and marketing activities comply with relevant laws and ethical standards
- Provide reports to the board and executive teams as required, summarizing the impact of communication and marketing initiatives.
- Perform other duties as required to achieve organizational goals.

**REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS**
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or minimum 3 years relevant work experience including demonstrated understanding of audiences within and outside the organization.
- Working knowledge of CMS, managing websites, Canva, Kentico/WordPress, Google analytics, Adobe suites and video editing software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based tools, including database management, website navigation, and social media platforms.
- Knowledge of planning profession and background in Marketing Communications is preferred.
