The employer, Canadian Religious Stewardship (CRS) is a not for profit and charitable organization established by Religious Institutes from across Canada. CRS is assisting a small group of Catholic/Christian Sisters based in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

With an average age of 82 years, this small group of seven Sisters and two layperson residents are experiencing many changes and transitions and require the services of a weekend and holiday relief Cook. The Sisters home is surrounded by nature and is located on a large tranquil property on the edge of water.

**Job Summary**

Reporting to the regular Cook, the weekend/relief Cook works weekends and covers vacations, generally from 10am - 6pm.

**The Position**

The weekend/relief Cook will be expected to perform functions relating to food preparation, service and clean up. While most of the Cook’s responsibilities will be within weekend and holiday relief hours there may be occasions where the Cook is called upon outside of these.

**Responsibilities**
- Plan, prepare and serve nutritious home-style lunch and dinner meals Monday to Friday to residents
- Prepare and serve nutritious home-style lunch and dinner meals on weekends to the residents
- Maintain clean and safe kitchen and food preparation environment, in keeping with all provincial and municipal regulations
- General supervision of residents during mealtimes
- In case of emergency assist residents with first aid until further assistance arrives
- Implement protocols for infectious diseases
- Prepare for recognition of special occasions including holidays, feast days and birthdays for residents

**Reporting**

The weekend/relief Cook will report to the regular cook, however the incumbent will be expected to work quite independently, and in close collaboration with the residents with a minimum amount of supervision.

**Duties**

**(i) Food Services**:

- Prepare meals and clean up after meals
- Set table for meals, paying attention to special touches for holidays or other special occasions such as birthdays
- Ensure all dietary needs are addressed and include alternative choices as is reasonably possible
- Provide breakfast items for residents to prepare their own breakfast
- Share meals with the residents
- Launder kitchen and dining room linens
- Clean fridges and freezers, ovens, cupboards, and floors
- Empty recycling and garbage as needed
- Be familiar with all house rules and safety and security policies
- Know the location and how to use fire safety equipment

**Requirements**:

- Food Safe certification
- Emergency First Aid & CPR
- Home-style cooking skills
- Clear and effective oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to both follow and give instruction and work collaboratively
- Compassionate, caring, respectful and flexible
- Physically fit to perform duties
- Sign a Confidentiality Agreement and practice discretion
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Fully immunized per Island Health Regulations

**Job Type**: Part-time

**Salary**: $22.00-$25.00 per hour
