**HUMN-3015** **-**501**:The Classical Tradition** (**0.5** credit)**
( _Winter_ _Semester: _January 4, 2024_ - _April 4, 2024_; _Monday_; _11:50 AM - 2:50 PM_; _In-Person_)_
**COURSE DESCRIPTION**:
This course examines the role of the classical tradition in Western thought and culture from antiquity to the present. Considering classicism as a structure open to interpretation and innovation rather than as a fixed tradition, we will critically examine the origins of the classical tradition in Greece and Rome and its resurgence and reinterpretation over two millennia of cultural and artistic development. The course will primarily focus on literature, philosophy, history and myth, but will also consider architecture,design, and the fine arts. Our study of primary and secondary texts will be supported with the analysis of visual works.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities may include but are not limited to: course outline development, studio preparation and delivery inclusive of lectures, critiques, grading, mid-term evaluations and final evaluations/reviews; including responsibility for health & safety and meeting academic and curricular requirements and deadlines.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- The successful applicant should have a terminal degree in art, design or relevant discipline and/or equivalent professional/practical experiene
- Experience teaching at the post secondary level is considered an asset, equivalent relevant experience will be considered
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty
