Job Title: HR Generalist ONroute is the proud operator of 22 convenient plazas along Highways 400 and 401 in Ontario. Our locations deliver fresh and exciting food and beverage options, fuel, and amenities that enhance the public’s travel experience. Reporting to the Senior Human Resources Generalist, and as first point of contact to field operations employees, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for communicating, deploying, and reinforcing company HR policies, practices, procedures and initiatives. The position requires knowledge and application of HR principles and practices, personnel administration, effective oral and written communication and listening skills, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively handle confidential information. The position also requires the ability to promote an active workplace culture where people feel a sense of belonging and inclusion with an equal ability to engage in difficult workplace conversations and decision making. Additional responsibilities include assisting with recruitment, retention and engagement of ONroute plaza roles, coaching managers on employee relations matters, and ensuring timely and accurate administration of HR records while maintaining compliance with company and provincial guidelines. Responds to human resources-related inquiries as first point of contact for field teams. Collaborates with field operations and human resources teams to develop, execute and maintain effective recruitment strategies and appropriate metrics including future staffing needs and trends Interacts with operations managers and employees in order to proactively and reactive address human resources-related matters Provides personnel policy and procedure guidance to operations managers and employees and helps ensure compliance Provides guidance to operations managers on employee coaching, discipline and terminations of basic to moderate complexity, elevating to senior leadership as directed Prioritizes complaints regarding workplace harassment and assists in any necessary investigations and disciplinary actions, elevating such complaints as required Assists with the timely collection and presentation of facts and supporting documentation associated with legislative and legal challenges brought against ONroute Leverage HR analytics and reporting to identify trends and insights related to employee turnover, recruitment, retention, and employee experience. Analyze data from turnover reports, exit interviews, stay interviews, recruitment metrics, and other HR reporting to identify opportunities, provide recommendations, and support operational decision-making. Support immigration and work authorization processes, including LMIA, OINP, and other applicable immigration programs. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee immigration documentation, monitor work permit and application timelines, ensure required documentation and records are maintained, and provide guidance and support to employees and Operations throughout the process. Maintains talent management, development, performance appraisal and other employee life-cycle processes Proactively maintains up-to-date knowledge of business operations, SOPs, workforce management trends and provides input on workflow and process improvements Assists with employee surveys, analysis, action planning and execution Actively participates in field, team and company meetings and events Assists with creation and delivery of SOPs, training programs, policy changes, and communications Performs general administrative functions and other needed duties as required by the business College or university degree in human resources or related discipline ~2-4 years of human resources generalist experience, preferably in a multi-unit restaurant or retail environment ~ Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with associates and confidently engage in difficult conversations ~ Requires leadership and self-motivating work skills to be part of a diverse work team under minimal supervision ~ Ability to work autonomously and prioritize multiple work projects and priorities as well as work effectively in HR, Operations and cross-functional work teams ~ Ability to support and respond to the needs of a 24-hour day, 7 day per week work environment that may require occasional evenings and weekend support on limited notice ~ Passion for the industry and the people and customers that drive it ~ Requires strong knowledge of HR technical subjects; CHRP or CHRL designation are considered asset ~ Computer literate (e.g. MS Office, HRIS) with proven ability to prepare documents, spreadsheets and presentations Ability to travel regularly to plaza locations across Ontario.
