LAB TECHNICIAN

Part-time (1.0 EFT) position to commence August 2024

St. John’s-Ravenscourt School is looking for a part-time, 10 month, 15-20 hours per week, Science Laboratory Technician to support the Science and Art programs, with an emphasis on senior years laboratory inventory, set-up, support and WHMIS compliance. As the ideal candidate, you will apply specialized technical knowledge to also support curricular delivery of the laboratory program in the areas of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The wages are $22.00 - $24.78 per hour depending on experience.

Desired Education and Experience:
  • A minimum of two year’s related experience, including experience working in a Chemistry laboratory
  • Experience with WHMIS
  • Experience developing and maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Responsibilities:

The Lab Technician will be responsible for:

  • Constructing, setting up and dismantling science labs
  • Preparing solutions utilizing specialized technical knowledge, including aseptic techniques and stoichiometric calculations
  • Maintaining safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials
  • Providing one-on-one small group and classroom support for students during Science Labs

St. John’s-Ravenscourt School was founded in 1820 principally to serve the children of the Selkirk settlers. By 1834 there were forty students, evenly split between boys and girls. SJR has inevitably grown and changed over the years since, though its success throughout has been unimpeachable. We have graduated 18 Rhodes scholars, for example, and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II granted patronage and established a scholarship in her name in 1981. Today the programs are as strong as our reputation.
