OverviewSomerset Engineering, a division of KWH Constructors, is a leading North American construction engineering company servicing the heavy construction industry. We engineer erection schemes for major bridges and other complex structures and provide detailed design of purpose-built erection equipment. Founded in 1981 in Vancouver, B.C., we have projects throughout North America.ResponsibilitiesConfer with clients and other members of the engineering team and conduct research in support of project requirements.Plan and design for the construction of major civil projects such as buildings, bridges, dams, and facades.Develop construction specifications and procedures.Evaluate and recommend appropriate building and construction materials.Interpret, review, and approve survey and civil design work.Conduct field services for civil works.Ensure construction plans meet the guidelines and specifications of building codes and other regulations.Establish and monitor construction work schedules.Prepare contract documents and review and evaluate tenders for construction projects.Supervise technicians, technologists and other engineers and review and approve approved designs, calculations, structural drawings, and cost estimates.Requirements10+ years of experience in construction engineering and heavy bridge construction means and methods.A BSc in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar) preferably with a chartership in a professional body such as ICE or IStructE, able to obtain a Licensed Professional Engineer status in BC. Exemplary leadership skills, including ardent team-building capabilities.Steel Bridge and Industrial construction experience is essential.Advanced knowledge of crane/lifting operations and rigging.Site experience working with the structural ironworker trade.Excellent communication skills for internal and external clients (oral, written, and presentations).Must be eligible to work in Canada.Physical Demands / Work EnvironmentWork is performed in a combination of standard office, field office, construction site, and hybrid / home environment.
