Primary Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Senior Grievance and Adjudication Officer, Representation Section, the position is responsible for: Representing PSAC and members before boards, tribunals, arbitrators, and through mediation. Providing advice on interpretation and application of legislation and regulations. Interpreting the collective agreement and recommending or drafting changes. Assisting in preparation and presentation of grievances. Analyzing unresolved cases at the final level of the grievance process. Researching and preparing grievance cases for adjudication/arbitration and advocating for the grievor. Negotiating grievance settlements with employers to avoid formal hearings. What you will bring to the table: Education / Experience Knowledge and experience in labour relations with progressive responsibility in applying labour law, interpreting collective agreements, and representing before administrative tribunals or courts. Knowledge Act and regulation, policy, and practice knowledge governing the employer-employee relationship. Thorough understanding of labour movement practices and principles. Abilities Research case law, interview witnesses, and explain statutory language and collective agreement construction; argue cases before administrative tribunals. Plan, organize, and coordinate case preparation in a dynamic work environment requiring critical analytical thinking. Innovate and take initiative in grievance resolution. Communicate orally and in writing at a high level in English. Work independently with minimal supervision. Understand, influence, and serve union membership. Personal suitability Commitment to trade union, equity principles, and social activism. What you need to know: Second language level based on CEFR; preferred candidates may have skills assessed; federal SLE results can be used.
