The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of carbon offsetting mechanisms, sustainability strategies, and environmental commodities. Experience with Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) is highly desirable and will be considered a significant asset. This role involves identifying and developing new business opportunities, managing client relationships, and driving sales of carbon credits. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of VCM sales, strong analytical skills, and a passion for environmental markets.Key ResponsibilitiesSales Support & Client Engagement: Collaborate with senior sales staff to manage and execute carbon credit sales in VCM markets; prepare client proposals, presentations, and financial models tailored to carbon market solutions; support the onboarding of corporate clients and facilitate their participation in carbon trading strategies.Client Service & Relationship Management: Act as point person to provide client support in proposals, marketing materials, event planning, and scheduling with the cooperation of trading, research, and marketing teams, supported by a senior leader; conduct proactive outreach and engagement with clients; respond to inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, or the business community with professional solutions.Market Knowledge & Strategy: Understand client needs and provide relevant ideas and opinions based on current market dynamics; provide support for an outstanding client experience; develop strong market knowledge to offer comprehensive service and pricing strategies; use analytical skills to support clear client communications.Product & Compliance: Develop reliable technical and financial reports; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ensure transactions meet regulatory and internal policy requirements; collaborate with risk management, compliance, and legal teams on market regulations.Collaboration & Execution: Liaise with trading desks, research teams, ESG specialists, and internal stakeholders to optimize product offerings; support marketing and thought leadership initiatives; build relationships across businesses and leaders to coordinate efforts.Market Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on carbon market trends, pricing, regulatory updates, and compliance frameworks; monitor market developments and identify growth opportunities; maintain and improve data analytics tools.Product Structuring & Innovation: Assist in structuring bespoke carbon credit offerings, including carbon offsets and other environmental finance products; ensure alignment with regulatory standards and the bank’s sustainability objectives.Key RequirementsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, environmental studies, or a related field.Direct experience selling RECs or carbon offsets.Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks (e.g., CDP, SBTi, TCFD, GHG Protocol).Existing network within the sustainability or carbon trading space.Strong knowledge of financial products and a demonstrated interest in carbon markets and sustainability initiatives.Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.Desirable SkillsExperience working with corporate clients across multiple sectors.Familiarity with ESG reporting standards and sustainable finance.Salary & BenefitsThe salary range will range from CAD $95,000 to $115,000 at the Associate level and CAD $125,000 to $150,000 at the Vice President level, dependent on experience. Pay Type: Salaried. Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications; may include a commission structure. For commission roles, the salary listed represents the target for the first year. BMO’s total compensation package may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other perks.
