Science World is a mission-based, charitable organization that supports the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math) literacy across British Columbia. Our new 5-year strategy seeks to revitalize Science World with a substantial, $80M, 5-year capital plan to replace critical infrastructure and transform the visitor experience as well as develop new content across all our channels under the themes of _Regeneration, Human Health and Inclusion. _We are striving to ensure all British Columbians, especially under-represented communities, have access to high quality, informal STEAM learning. Through our onsite, online and outreach programs, Science World seeks to spark that curiosity and wonder in STEAM and support the development of talent across all communities in the province.

**Position Description**

The Vice President, Finance provides overall direction and leadership in the financial management of Science World. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice President actively contributes to the organization’s operational and long-term strategic goals, including the development of Science World’s financial management strategy in support of the organization’s mission. The Vice-President will also work closely with the Board Treasurer and the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee in financial planning, management, investment, and reporting.

The Vice President will also support the new Board Strategic Revenue Committee working with the Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Events Management on developing and implementing plans to substantially increase revenue across our organization over the next five years from existing operations and new initiatives.

In addition to the strategic components, the Vice President will be charged with developing and implementing policies and procedures both in the finance and general operational realms. The Vice President will also be responsible for developing and supporting the organizational implementation of our ESG initiatives, developing our business analytics capability so that it can provide strong financial decision-making support as well as identify opportunities for increased or new revenues to drive our mission and purpose. This is an outstanding opportunity for a purpose driven finance executive with substantial operational experience and a proven track record of creative problem-solving and change management to join in a high-growth, mission-driven organization. Experience in the tourism, attractions, real estate or hospitality sector or other high growth/change environments would be a plus.

**Responsibilities**
- Provides ongoing assessment and development of the accounting foundation of the organization. Ensure robust internal controls are in place and work is completed per the Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit organizations
- Provides business and financial analyses, revenue and cost/risk modelling, project based as well as long term budgetary planning and financial management recommendations in connection with Science World’s operational activities and long-range plans
- Provides expertise and guidance to the staff team to ensure compliance with all applicable statutory and regulatory requirements related to our business activities, including accounting, tax, deductions, financial management and financial reporting. Oversee accounting and financial practices to ensure Science World complies with CRA charitable status requirements
- Oversees preparation, approval and timely completion of all financial reporting and year-end audit activities. Regularly report, present, and engage the Board Treasurer, Finance, Risk and Audit Committee, and the Board of Directors in discussions associated with the financial management of the organization
- Develops and provide oversight to the Purchasing function, including involvement in policy and systems development, key corporate procurement initiatives, and supporting staff to identify and realize opportunities for improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Provides expertise and advice to internal clients in terms of development, negotiation, dispute management and settlement of contracts. Ensure a centralized record of all corporate contracts is developed and maintained
