Our Environmental Coordinators lead and oversee the environmental management practices of a construction project or of the district. District Overview

Eastern Canada District's projects include highways, bridges, mass transit, mine site development & open pit operations, hydroelectric powerhouses, wind-power plants, dams & industrial. We serve the construction and mining industries and operate in Eastern Canada.


Location

This position is based in Toronto. Our main office is located in Oakville.


Responsibilities
  1. Lead the environmental compliance for a project or district.
  2. Identify, assess and reduce environmental risks to the company.
  3. Develop and update environmental plans.
  4. Perform and oversee field inspections and monitoring (water, quality, underwater noise etc.).
  5. Identify wetland and sensitive environmental areas for protection and fencing in advance of construction activities.
  6. Maintain project data tracking requirements.
  7. Monitor, forecast and communicate environmental costs at the project level.
  8. Develop and conduct environmental protection and awareness training to staff at all levels.
  9. Function as a principal technical advisor and coordinator for environmental issues.
  10. Coordinate with relevant crews on their work locations, material needs, quantities and invoices.
  11. Interpret and apply environmental specifications and drawings avoiding and minimizing adverse effects to the natural environment and local communities.
  12. Identify, document, report and develop corrective actions for environmental incidents.
  13. Participate in project audits (both internal and external).
  14. Prepare project and Kiewit required reports and communication of environmental risks to project management.
  15. Liaise with environmental agencies and attend field visits with client and regulatory agencies.
  16. Liaise with the clients; providing them design information, schedule details, quantities etc. ensuring they are aware of any unanticipated discoveries, critical permitting and compliance issues.
  17. Review requirements and prepare proposals and estimates for new contracts.

Qualifications

Ability to travel and relocate as needed. Undergraduate degree in an environmental science or engineering field, or related. 5+ years' experience managing design and construction environmental compliance for large construction projects. Qualified Environmental Professional designation is preferred. Registered Professional Biologist (P.Biol. or equivalent). Working knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation. Pipeline inspection experience highly desirable. Highly motivated and self-managed to get things done right the first time. Effective and strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Excellent organization abilities and time management skills. Strong work ethic and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Superior interpersonal skills. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Uncompromising attitude toward safety and integrity. Functional knowledge of English (written and verbal) is considered as an asset since mobility across provinces in Canada is required. Lessons can be provided as needed.

Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
