Job Description: Construction Health & Safety Manager

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive continuous improvement in health and safety to establish our client as a leader in safety standards.
  • Promote corporate safety initiatives and industry events to reinforce the commitment to safety excellence.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to devise and execute site-specific safety plans and quality control measures.
  • Assist in coordinating the health and safety of trade contractors, vendors, and owner personnel on projects.
  • Coordinate project health and safety programs with trade contractors, assisting in project start-up, planning, and risk mitigation.
  • Collect and analyze health and safety reports, preparing comprehensive reports for management review.
  • Manage incidents involving injuries or property damages, conducting thorough investigations and incident reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and documentation standards, facilitating compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct on-site safety audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Inspect project sites, equipment, and processes for compliance with local regulations and company policies.
  • Provide training and education on safety requirements, including coordinating new hire safety orientation programs.
  • Monitor training records, promoting additional training as necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Mentor team members in health and safety practices, contributing to the development of the corporate health and safety department.
  • Chair, manage, or participate in corporate health and safety meetings, seminars, and industry updates.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and industry organizations to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Lead the management and renewal of relevant certifications, demonstrating commitment to safety excellence.

Minimum Education & Skills Required:

  • A College Diploma in Safety or Construction related field.
  • NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation.
  • Working towards CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the construction safety field.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of regulations, standards, hazard recognition, and injury management skills are essential.
