Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Care and Clinical Manager, the Recreation Therapist will direct recreational assistants in implementing therapeutic recreation programs to enhance the quality of residents’ lives. THE ROLE Key Accountabilities Demonstrate, promote and advocate the Wing Kei vision, mission and core values Conduct therapeutic assessment, treatment goals/plans and regular care plan review for residents to remove barriers that prevents residents from participating in meaningful leisure and to maximize independence and participation In collaboration with residents, families, interdisciplinary team members and volunteers, promote physical, cognitive, social and emotional well‑being through engagement in therapeutic activities Plan, implement, and evaluate individual and group therapeutic programs as related to resident specific goals according to Wing Kei’s Person and Family Centered Care Framework Supervise and provide guidance to Recreational Assistants Participate in on‑going trainings to ensure high standard of service and best practices in the field is achieved Other general duties including essential standards of practice outlined in ATRA's Competency profile: Assessment Intervention Plans Program Development Program Delivery Documentation Evaluation Professional Development Community Practice Communication Problem Solving Patient Centered Care Therapeutic Relationships and Boundaries Professional Judgement THE INDIVIDUAL WHO WILL SUCCEED Is aligned with Wing Kei’s vision and mission to continue to deliver excellence in senior care Completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in recreation with a specialization in therapeutic recreation Current professional member of ATRA Completion of CPR training with a current license/certificate Is cheerful and resourceful, enthusiastic with a positive and flexible attitude Exhibits consistent critical thinking and problem solving Possess effective organization and program management skills Is diligent with good observation skills, keen attention to details and sensitivity to residents’ feelings, preferences and needs Possesses effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills to engage and motivate residents of varying abilities and to communicate and collaborate with families and the interdisciplinary team. The ability to communicate in Chinese would be an asset Is flexible to work rotating shifts including evenings and weekends Experience in working in Long Term Care or Support Living (SL4) setting preferred If you are shortlisted for this opportunity, we will contact you regarding next steps.
