ITS Solutions Specialist (1 Position) - 1 Year Contract Join the City of Markham Information Technology Services Department on a one‑year contract as an ITS Solutions Specialist. Your responsibilities will include supporting and developing internal business applications, collaborating on cross‑functional projects, and driving process improvement across the city. Job Summary You will work as part of the Application Development and Support team, providing development and support to internal business partners. You will manage and maintain several business applications, develop custom code to enhance city services, and resolve complex technical issues. Responsibilities Provide full lifecycle support for the City’s enterprise applications and services, including development, configuration, implementation, integration, and maintenance. Design and implement web‑based applications using: Backend: Java (Spring Boot) APIs: RESTful services, Swagger/OpenAPI, SOAP Databases: Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Troubleshoot application and code‑level issues using tools such as Postman and IntelliJ IDEA. Ensure application performance and availability meet defined service level agreements (SLAs). Manage incidents and problems for assigned applications. Interact with vendors regarding product support, enhancements, and implementation of changes. Participate in cross‑functional project teams for planning, execution, and technical problem‑solving. Implement and integrate software applications, manage product support issues, and coordinate enhancements. Work with platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM, SharePoint, MS Power Apps, and Power Automate. Identify and implement technical process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce risk, and achieve cost savings. Utilize scripting and automation tools such as Azure DevOps for CI/CD and task automation. Ensure compliance with corporate policies, vendor agreements, and operational guidelines, including cybersecurity and data governance standards. Share technical knowledge, promote learning, document processes, and mentor staff. Perform other related duties as assigned, including after‑hours support rotations if required. Required Skills & Competencies Full Stack Development (5+ years) – extensive hands‑on experience in Java (Spring Boot) with microservices; proficiency in REST/SOAP web services and dependency injection. API Development & System Integration – design and consume RESTful APIs, understand XML, JSON, WSDL, OAuth2, SAML, Basic Auth. Cloud & DevOps – hands‑on experience with Azure, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM, SharePoint, Power Apps, Power Automate. Application Support & Troubleshooting – root cause analysis and timely resolution of complex technical issues. Architecture & Design – knowledge of software design patterns, scalable architecture, workflow design, and business process programming. Development Tools & IDEs – proficient with Eclipse IDE, Bitbucket for Git‑based version control. Server & Infrastructure – strong knowledge of Windows and web servers (IIS, Apache) and related services. Database Management – expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle, SQL, PL/SQL.
